Well I finally signed up to GOG and...thanks for the free games guys! ^_^

However I'm running an ATI Radeion 4870X2 with a driver build of 10.9 (and windows XP pro 32 bit), and i'm a bit nervous about filling my cart, with all my PC gaming memories, if they are not going to work on my card.

Any GOG video card gurus out there? What can I run with my card? Can i get most games to run windowed?

Any help and advice would be fantastic!

Well, since you said "any," here I am. From my personal experience I have never had a game not work that I have gotten on GOG...Sometimes I do need to fiddle around a bit with a few things, but, I have always got them working (and we are talking a fair number of games here)...I have an ATI card and Windows XP 32 bit...so things will probably be similar for you..if you ever have any troubles with a game just check out the forums for it, and you will probably find some helpful hints to your problems there....Remember some games though do need just a little bit of work to run, but, most run flawlessly (at least in my experience)....Happy GOGing to you! And welcome aboard ElfRage. :D
Thank you so much!

It's to bad that we couldn't create a super program that would adapt any game to any system, (though Dos box is close hehe), so that they always work.

Who knows with GOG though...they just might be able to do it!

Also umm...what is the DOS box command for winded mode? I forget. ^_^

With M.A.M.E. and M.E.S.S. the approach already exists and is in use for many systems.

alt-enter switches between windowed and full-screen.
I don't think there are that many OpenGL-only games available on GOG. New ATI drivers have terrible compatibility with older OpenGL functions and as such you will probably encounter a variety of visual glitches and other problems.

Ie. if you were to run GLQuake with the newest ATI drivers. Luckily(?) most of those games are Win95 specific and do not run under Win7 or other modern OSes as such.
A ati 4870 crossfired is still a fairly powerful combination even by contemporary standards. The only drawback is that it is not a directx11 card and you wouldn't be able to run the more newer, demanding titles but then again most games use direct x 11 less effectively by using tesselization in objects that do not really need tesselization like say crysis 2 for eg. it's not such a bad trade off frankly and you should hold on until the ati 7 series comes along.... There aren't many games that are direct x 11 only and most games have an option of using direct x 9,10.

You might want to avoid the following games though:

I don't see any reason to worry about, as DOSBox universally works on anything without much trouble.
DirectX has also been proven as backward compatible without much hassle, most problems stem from games that were primarily written for 3dfx Glide.

Only game I saw that had problems was Doom3 (OpenGL) and these were easily fixed by disabling most advanced ATI options in the drivers.

I myself prefere nVidia cards because I've had a really good experience using them, but see no reason why you wouldn't go with that card.
BAh...doom 3 runs flawlessly on my ati 5570 without so much as a hiccup with all settings on ultra.

It ran smooth, but had artifacts when displaying heat blur effects.

I've had an HD 4870x2 and no one problem at all :-)
If something goes wrong, you can also disable one of the two gpu via CCC, for more compatibility!
