I played through the game about a week ago and liked it a lot. I think many reviewers just didn't know how to approach this game.
I loved the setting, and liked the story and the characters. I also think that the level design (especially the main hub) was very good, and there was a lot of attention to detail that I really appreciated (like, for examples, the hilarious thoughts of several people that you meet on the graveyard).
Parts of the criticism are justified. Yes, the game is short. I spent 20 hours with it, which means that "normal" players who don't look into every nook and cranny will probably take less than 10 hours. Yes, the story is pre-determined and doesn't give you any choices. Yes, the "puzzles" are very easy.
However, all of this didn't matter all that much to me because I simply enjoyed the story. Yes I like having options, but I can also enjoy a well-told story without choices. I also like tough puzzles, but in a game that's mainly about the story, easy puzzles are a good thing - they kept me engaged, but didn't detract from the plot. And I don't mind a 10-hour game if I enjoy those 10 hours as much as I did, it's certainly better than games that want me to grind for 20 hours before my characters can do anything meaningful.
The criticism about "weak combat" is rubbish. It's not necessarily wrong, as the combat indeed does feel tacked-on and repetitive, it also poses no challenge. But this game didn't need any combat to begin with. The complaint shouldn't be "weak combat", but rather "unnecessary repetitive combat elements in a game that didn't need them".
I do think, though, that the players enjoyment of the game really depends on whether he/she likes the story. If you enjoy the story, then the aforementioned "weaknesses" have little effect. If you don't, then you'll probably find lots of things to dislike.
My personal recommendation is to give it a shot, but perhaps wait for a sale, the game is currently a bit overpriced. But if you think that you might like the setting and the story, do give it a shot eventually.
