The problem I find with most mods is balance. Many of them are intended to be challenging but they make the early game very difficult.

It's fine if you've got a character you always import with god-like stats and sums of money, but for a brand new character it can be a chore trying to grind up early.

Right now I'm trying out Floris's Modpack due to the recommendations here. I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Not every roaming band of enemies is god-like with 20 troops who can destroy 90 by themselves.

Hawk52: I was one of those people that bought the original M&B while it was still in beta. I honestly put a couple hundred hours into the game.

I was late to the Warband party, but I've been playing it a lot recently. Prophecy of Pendor is my mod of choice right now, trying to grind a new character up to save the Empire before they collapse.
I was the same, bought it in beta and loved it to death.

I tried warband, and the different feel of the combat put me off. I couldn't quite get a feel for the sword swings or the altered lance mechanics. I should give it another go sometime I guess.

Gazoinks: Just installed Floris. People don't look as much like idiots anymore! :D I haven't played long enough with it to comment on the mechanical changes, but it certainly looks nicer. Though I'm not crazy about some of the unit name changes. They're using what I assume are historical names, but it means that instead of, say, Rhodoks Crossbowman or whatever you've got Rhodoks [Something Italian-sounding] so you can't tell what the unit is until you upgrade it (unless you speak the language in question, of course). Is there a unit tree thingy I can download so I can see what units I can upgrade to?
I think the letter before it denotes the type of unit it is. I is infantry, A is archer, and C is cavalary

You can grab the images from here: http://floris.wikia.com/wiki/Troop_Trees

I've been playing Floris a bit now, and it's mostly great fun but with an intensely frustrating bit.
When I'm serving in army of a lord, battles seem to start with either:

1.) we are on our camp, on foot -> the mounted enemy comes and slaughters us.
2.) we attack mounted, the enemy is on foot in our camp (!!!) and steals&pillages all the stuff from my inventory before we reach them.

Other than that it's great and especially fun that foot infantry is now pretty deadly.

Addendum. I've always wanted to be a smartass and use this google thingy

macuahuitlgog: Well it is multi player only so if you are not into multi player then don't get it. If you are into multi player, it is f**king awesome!!! And even more awesome if you find the Napoleonic Wars interesting.

A good review of this DLC.

orcishgamer: I love Angry Joe and don't watch his reviews nearly enough!

And thanks all, that video review and the very positive comments helped me decide to get it, not like 2.50 is some big splurge or something after the GOG and Steam sales.
Angry Joe is awesome. I just watched the whole review too and wow, now i want yet another game! Man, there is just too much cool stuff to play and I am someone with a lot of time on my hands. It's crazy. Wishlisted this on Steam for now.

Favorite tactic: Get on the hill place archers on top, infantry in front just a down the hill a little, and I go out to harass and disorganize the enemy, causing them to go piece meal at my soldiers which means an easy slaughter. :)
