Would LOVE to see this game. One the under-rated classics of all time.

GREAT game. This is why I love this site, people remind me of these wonderful gems. This really was fantastic.
I'm eyeing a copy of it on eBay now. Sounds like an interesting game, but looking through its screenshots on Mobygames is certainly not selling it to me. What are the game's selling points?
In my mind it was unlike most anything out there. My memory may be spotty, but basically you started with your base structure and then "launched" new ones out from there. For example there were building that simply controlled an area, another that launched rockets, shield generators, energy cells, etc. The object was to control an area and box your opponent out. Think Othello with the ability to blast a piece out if needed. It sounds, and was, truly simple. But the AI was good and the game had endless replayability. Which is good, as it took some time to master.

There used to be a demo out there. I am sure some site somewhere still has it downloadable. It should run fine under XP (just a guess, but it was this millennia I believe).

Cool so it's a bit like the "<genre> General" games?

The key part about the game is that to place a new 'module' you have to launch it, using a mechanism similar to a basic golf game. You aim in a particular direction, then click to start he 'power meter' then click again when it reaches the power you want. If you've done it correctly the new module lands where you want it. Plus there's wind and other factors.

Of course it never lands exactly where you want it, and that's part of the fun of the game. So you have to combine the strategy of what modules to build and where you want them, and the dexterity element of whether you want to take a risky shot that would put it in a killer spot, or just inch up with more cautious, but less effective placements.

Really a lot of fun, and very novel! There was never anything like it, before or since.

I am not sure what you mean on the --- General games, so i cant help you there.

I totally forgot about the launching aspect of the game... :) Dont get turned off by that if you arent a manual dexterity kind of guy, you can spend a week lining up your shot if you need to, its all turn based. I do now recall the exquisite joy of landing a power generator perfectly within range of three nodes.
That sounds really interesting. Thanks, it's going cheap on eBay now (fully boxed too!) so I'll probably pick it up :D
Let me know if you get it to run. If it works without a boatload of effort I can grab immediate gratification instead of waiting on GOG!

My copy is still plug&play on Windows Vista and Windows XP.

It's a good bet that it's still plug&play on Windows 7 as well.

And yes, it's a fun little game. To follow up on what someone mentioned, golf/strategy hybrid might be the best description :P.

Edit: Reading the back of the CD box, I see it's compatible with Windows 98/Me/2000/XP, so of course it's plug&play with Windows XP, silly me :P.
