I guess my monitor died (less than two years old though!) but thought I'd ask here to be sure.

Was sitting here and just heard a very slight, click, and the monitor went off. And it won't come back on. Checked all cables, unplugged it and plugged into another outlet, nothing.

So, I'm guessing it's dead, right? Just wondering if anyone had something similar happen and maybe it was something I'm not thinking of but I'm sure it's probably dead. Went to best buy and bought another one already, just hadn't thrown this one in the trash yet.

Less than two years???? Damn, is that all monitors last nowadays??? (Mine is on probably an average of 16-20 hours per day, maybe that's it??)
Check the connectors for any obstructions in them. It can easily happen.

Make sure you try new cables before getting a new monitor.
Could just be a fuse. Lots of electronic equipment has them. The question is whether it's in a location where you can get at it yourself.

Might even be the one in the plug. Although I've never had one of those die on me.
Thanks for the replies folks.

I just tried another power cable (thanks WPEGG) but that didn't work. And I don't "see" anywhere there could be fuse, and I can't find my manual, but I don't think there's a fuse that's easy to get to.

It sure seems to me like they should last longer than 20 months though, shouldn't they?? I mean I do understand the lamp has a set life and then does die, but 20 months??? It seems to me (a total UNexpert) that one should last longer than 20 months even if it were on 24/7.

Anyway, just got back from Best Buy with my new monitor. I simply can't live without my comoputer. Almost literally. LOL.

Thinking about tearing the other one open and looking inside since it's going to the trash anyway just to see if I can learn anything about what happened and/or why.
No warranty? Mine died in similar circumstances and I had it replaced within a week.

We don't get good, legally mandated warranty periods here, so if you want one you'll usually be paying extra for it (either for a brand that actually grants one or for a third party warranty).

Heh, I think it did have a warranty, but my stupid butt didn't register it when I purchased it. I didn't think I could go and register it now and claim a replacement. Do you think it would be Ok to do that?? Plus I have no sales recept, although I did get it from Amazon and the purchase might still show up there, would that be enough?? I would love to get it replaced if it could, then I'd have a backup in case this ever happened again.

LOL, I've already registered this one. Live and learn.

Yeah, we have about the worst consumer laws of any developed country. And it sucks. But I think this one did have a 2 or 3 year warranty (I just can't remember). It was a ViewSonic and I noticed all of their's today has a 3 year warranty. Or I missed some, but all of the Viewsonics I looked at today at Amazon had 3 year warranties I THINK.

EDIT: Well, in rethinking that, I would guess we don't have the worst consumer laws of any developed country, but ours are certainly worse than our European counterparts. But there probably are a few developed countries that have worse consumer laws than ours. Poor souls.

It really depends on what the conditions for registering it are. Could give it a go I guess? Dual monitor setup is awesome, I'm thinking about going up to three.

AWESOME!j

I've got an RMA number, and it looks like they're going to fix it/replace it for me. Cool. I have my invoice (got it from Amazon by looking up my old orders) dated November 29, 2010, and they agreed it's well within the three year warranty period.

Thanks again for the suggestion. I probably would've let it go thinking because I didn't register it I had lost out. But it worked anyway. Good deal.

Well, happy days :)
Enjoy your old monitor anew!
