A cyberpunk adventure in Hong Kong!

Deus Ex (available in the Game of the Year edition on GOG.com), is the beloved cyberpunk classic RPG/FPS everyone loves and holds dear in their memory. This was--and still is--one of the most suggestive and enthralling visions of the future that graced our computer screens. As a series, Deus Ex took some turns and twists changing over the years and exploring different gameplay possibilities. The latest development in the Deus Ex brand left PC gamers feeling a little left out, to say the least. Don't worry! Something new and exciting has just happened in the Deus Ex PC universe.

Deus Ex: Nihilum mod (recently released via ModDB), serves as a single player campaign to the original Deus Ex, released in 2000. Exploring an alternate Deus Ex continuity, it introduces a new scenario offering about 10 hours of additional gameplay on the average. This robust modification features over 2 hours of new original music tracks, over 2 200 lines of dialog delivered by project's fans, three new weapons including the Walther P99 pistol, and--most importantly--a well executed and interesting story. Keep in mind: this is an alternate vision, so don't expect it to feel exactly like Deus Ex classic. Nihilum has its very own distinctive feeling to it, but it still remains well within the borders of the cyberpunk genre.

The mod has been very well received and literally thousands of gamers rushed in to witness the story of Mad Ingram, UNATCO's first nano-augmented agent, dispatched into the city of Hong Kong with a mission to stop a terrorist threat. We heartily recommend you to join them and revisit the dystopian cyberpunk future of the first Deus Ex. The mod itself can be downloaded via ModDB.com. To get the most of your experience, it is recommended also to get the New Vision mod as well. It will greatly improve the game's visuals, updating it with amazing high-res textures. The installation instructions for each mod are provided within the download packages.

Both Deus Ex: Nihilum and New Vision mods, just as most works of the modding community, were made possible by the joint effort of many talented and dedicated people. To name just the project leaders, we should mention FastGamerr, the main author of Nihilum, and the main texture and 3D artists behind New Vision's: David Watts and Marijn Kentie.

One final note: make sure you've got Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 runtimes installed on your machine before attempting to install the mods mentioned in this editorial. The right order to go about the set up is: MSVC++ 2012 runtimes, New Vision, and finally Deus Ex: Nihilum.

Deus Ex GOTY Edition is available on GOG.com for only $9.99. Do you know any mods for it, that are worth installing? Share your thoughts in the comments, and have fun playing Nihilum!

I wish GOG would actually host mods. I think that would be a great thing even if it's not in the site's mission statement. Even Moddb isn't a one-stop shop. Maybe a fee could be added for this feature.
There is a good amount of other "standalone" single-player storyline mods available for Deus Ex. I suggest you check them out as well. They will provide you with a huge amount of additional playable content. I've completed all the mods mentioned below.

* Burden of 80 proof
* The Nameless Mod
* Zodiac
* Redsun 2020
* Nihilum

You might also want to check out an unfinished mod called The Cassandra Project. You should be able to find these easily using Google.

EDIT: A mod called Project 2027 might be worth a try. I actually just became aware of the mod.

That's interesting and actually seems to answer a question I've had for a while. So these mods just take assets from default Deus Ex install and make a standalone install, so one can play them without overwriting their vanilla DX game?
These mods utilize the executables and resources from original Deus Ex. I have an old CD version of the game so I've never had to test them with GOG implementation. I've always reinstalled the game from scratch before installing the mods. I've never checked out whether the mods screw up the original game since I've completed it too many times already.

I also came across the Project 2027 mod. Now that I've completed Nihilum I believe it is next in the list.

The point in my post was to round up the most significant single-player mods for additional content.

I have to wonder if they're actually allowed to do that, I mean copying the original's assets into a new directory and providing the user with a new, stand-alone game. Then again, Nehrim for Oblivion did precisely that and nobody seemed to mind
I like the installation process to this.

1) Install Deus Ex GOTY from GOG
2) Install Nihilum
3) Install New Vision
4) Play the game

*Optional, change settings in Kentie's launcher.

I'm so used to fiddling around making sure the game plays the way I want to I'm so surpised when I come across a game that goes so fast with minimal to no issues. :D
Great, a new MOD for one of my beloveth games! Definitelly a reason to buy DE from GOG :)

I also recommend Project2027, it is a fanmade alternative story to Deus Ex. Good graphics, great gameplay, new skills and some nice new features (you can carry spiderbots in your inventory, use them as a support in battle or directly control them, even repair them).

Also watch out for Re-Vision MOD! It is a revision of the original maps, making them bigger, more challenging and adding more details to the game world. Not finished yet, but the authors promised to finish it this year.

Sadly, I get a message "You cannot post any links at this moment.", so you have to google these mods by yourself...
