SilensPoetae: Another question:

If there was a game you liked and played full completely free (not even ads) with a donation option of 1$, or what is the same, paying the game after playing, would you pay something?

Please be sincere here.
That's a good question. At the moment, my finances tend to be fairly stretched and if I could play a game completely for free I don't think I would donate, even if I enjoyed it a lot. However, were I to be better off and have more disposable income I would probably make a donation for a game I really liked.

Admittedly I'm also a bit of a miser... <_< >_>

I'd be interested to see how many people would donate though.
1.-Do you play mobile games?
Currently I don't, if you don't count netbook gaming.

1b.-If no, If there were another type/genre of mobile game that you would like, would you play it? Could you describe how that game would be?
It's not due to the genres but due to me not using any high-tech mobile devices. I could imagine playing adventure games like the ones from Wadjet Eye, RPGs like Shadowrun Returns, suitable platformers and puzzle games and even the occasional casual game similar to Bookworm Adventures (words) or Puzzle Quest (match 3).

2.-What kind of purchase option do you prefer?
a)One payment (0.99$)
If those were quality games like the ones mentioned above, I'd definitely pay more than a dollar (so basically I'd treat mobile gaming the same way as PC gaming). I'd mostly stay away from free-to-play stuff (as opposed to freeware), out of personal preference and prejudices.

If there was a game you liked and played full completely free (not even ads) with a donation option of 1$, or what is the same, paying the game after playing, would you pay something?
If I really enjoyed it, donating a dollar would be a no brainer; tbh, I'm not sure whether my stingy old self would muster the willpower to give much more than a dollar retroactively though. It would depend a lot on the game and my sympathy for the developer and on how big the competition was (meaning whether it's just this one game or tons of them that I'd feel obliged to pay for).

SilensPoetae: Greetings, everyone. Some questions I would like to know your answers:

1.-Do you play mobile games?
If you consider DS and PSP then yes

2.-What kind of purchase option do you prefer?

my phone is for calls ,texting and buisness
guess im old
Off from the OPs questions which I'll answer later, but just because I feel like rambling:

I'll never understand the PC only or console only crowds. I'll happily game on five different devices a day and love them all.

Most of the games I enjoy work fine on a 2000 or earlier PC, so my three year old smart phone and tablet are more than capable of handling them. I probably spend more time gaming on my iPad than all the others combined.
1.-Do you play mobile games?
Yes, quite a bit actully, especially after Humble Bundle started to bundle mobile games as well.

1a.-If yes, what games are you currently playing and why do you like them?
Simpsons Tapped Out: It's just addictive little thing. Repetative, but you don't have to spend a lot of time playing it, so you can quickly check it and forget about it.

Final Fantasy III: A good android port of the game. Plays very well on a touchscreen and I'd even go as far as to claim, that the style of RPG's it presents fit very effortly on a mobiel device thanks to all the griding you need to do. It just feels much more pleasant to grind your levels up on the mobiel environment than it was on a console.

2.-What kind of purchase option do you prefer?
I've bought games and I play free games, both with ads and with in-app purchases. I have no real preference here.

I don't play mobile games on my phone, but on a WiFi-only Android tablet. I don't want to pay $30 extra a month for a data plan.
I got my first smartphone last summer, mainly for work, and I thought I would use it for gaming while at it. I was horribly disappointed.

I, too, wanted to use it like I used my old gameboy. Unfortunately, I found nothing of the sort. Why didn't I have a proper portable gaming console? well, I'm always traveling, and I didn't want to pack yet another device if I could help it. Having a mobile I could play on was perfect, except there were no games for me there.

My first problem was, what should I try? I wasn't gonna play from the get go, so I tried a few free games. Shitty, as you can imagine. A friend recommended me plague inc, and that was kinda fun... for a little while. I soon grew tired of its simple mechanics, but the author did get a € from me at least. And so, I ended up without games on my phone.

Later on, I got a couple android bundles at HB. Those should be big time titles, right? There should be something good, right? Nope. I actually played one (can't remember the name) about managing a spaceship, getting crew etc... Looked good. Turned out to be simplistic, minigame (QTE) oriented, easy and lacking in content. And that was the best of all the ones I tried. There was some RPG with an elder scrolls vibe, but control was horrendous. I did enjoy playing carmaggeddon for the nostalgia value, but I already own it on GOG and on PC control is a tiny bit better.

Finally I gave up completely. Recently I bought a second hand PSP and I'm happy with that.

So, do I play mobile games? nope. What would make me play? Well, for one, a decent story. Mechanics that work with the touchpad control, so probably turn based? I'd rather make it a one payment game, DRM-free. Abslutey no internet required to play, because I don't have internet on my phone and if I have wifi, I probably have a socket for my laptop too. Let me play whenever I want. And don't send me messages about zombies attacking me when I'm not playing! (I'm looking at you, PvZ2). Basically, making things play as if it was a console.

This said, two problems with this approach. 1, I'm hardly the standard target audience for mobile games, so is it worth it catering to me? And second, if you do make a game I'd play, how will I know it exists?

SilensPoetae: Another question:

If there was a game you liked and played full completely free (not even ads) with a donation option of 1$, or what is the same, paying the game after playing, would you pay something?

Answer : NO. Simply because donating is not a reflex for everybody when the product has already been "consumed" (on the contrary of crowdfunding for example where you don't already have the product). Look at AdBlock that many uses, I don't know the percentage of people who donated to the dev but it must be pretty low.
Up until recently I wasn't finding anything that I want to really play. Then I started getting more into tabletop games, and a number of them have fairly accessible mobile versions. The experience seems to translate fairly well, and price and in app purchase wise. What is appealing is they are simple, low commitment experiences that work well with being on the go, or needing to kill some time while waiting on an oil change. I don't think I would find serious gaming an attractive option from the mobile perspective.

I reject the notion that in app purchasing equates to pay2win. With say “Star Realms”, the game is free on all platforms. You get to try out the full game, but free only gets you easy mode against a CPU. If you want to play on higher levels, or online then you have to actually pay for the game, something you will know if you want to do by then. It's not like buying powerups to gain an advantage, which would be sketchy. If you like the game, there is plenty of incentive to buy the full game, without it overly contriving a situation of frustration to make you feel like you have to pay to get any enjoyment out of it.

With “Summoner Wars” you also get the game for free, but free only lets you control one faction. If you like it you can buy 1 or more, or all of the others. There are no real advantages gained, just as much of the experience as you want to buy, without nagging or hounding you with ads. If you do want the whole thing it cost next to nothing compared to the retail, tabletop version. Both feel like very fair ways to implement the scheme without it coming off as sleazy, money grubbing, or annoying.

So, free is a good low barrier entry point, which seems to be the most successful way to get something into people's hands by all accounts I've heard. Within that model, I am not a fan of “paying” for a game with ads. It's annoying, anti-immersive, potentially buggy, and wastes time. If a game is something I have the slightest interest in then it's worth 2$ to have a full, and uninterrupted experience.

If something did have ads, then I am paying with my time, and indirectly giving revenue to the creator at some expense of a personal resource. Given that I would expect to be receiving the full experience and not some ad ridden demo of a non-ad ridden game. I can't imagine a more off putting scenario than that.

I'm not afraid of spending a few dollars on something if I think I will get some real enjoyment out of. I think a lot of people are, so I may not be the typical mobile shopper.
I hope this is a discussion more than it is a market survey. Also, if it's a market survey I hope GOG is not your only sample.

1- Yes
1a- Oh, recently it's cold and I'm playing more arcadey stuff like Impossible Road and Super Hexagon, though I do enjoy some FTL and do own Bastion. Haven't bought new games lately, I now have more devices that want to be fed with games and I've decided the ones I have on the iPad there are good enough for now.

2 - A

Also, genres that I feel work great on mobile are "strategy", "arcade", "puzzle", "roguelike", "action" and "turn-based", and many combinations of those!
