I was looking forward to getting hexen on ps2 to work. Have a ps2 memory card, a perfectly untouched cd of hexen beyond heretic, 200 pounds of 1 whole wheat crackers, and fruit punch from campbells???

Do all ps1 games work on ps1 memory cards only or is there something else at work. Abortions can only be wrought from magical theurapeutic intervention.

Unfortunately, you can't use PS2 memory cards for PS1 games. You're going to need a PS1 memory card.

Psx games require a psx memory card to save and load, while on ps2 system.
Indirectly, you can copy psx memory cards to ps2 memory cards within the browser as a back-up only.
A ps2 card can not be used to save/load during actual psx gameplay, sorry.

You do know how to turn on fast-loading and smoothing option, both accessed by hitting triangle someone where in the browser, I think psx version/firmware screen, can't remember, but it is there.
You can store PS1 game saves to PS2 memory cards, but you can't open them.
Yeah you have to have a psone memory card to save psone games even if you're playing them on a ps2.

I don't know if it's an option, but I should point out that all ps3s are backwards compatible with psone games and save games on virtual memory cards stored on the hard drive.

You do? Who told you that? Was it mcgyvar? Either way it matters not. Thankyou Gi Jane, that piece of advice is excellent. Ps3 here I come!

PS3 does seem to use software emulation for PS1 games, so I would assume that there may be issues running games that aren't officially supported by the emulation. I don't see Hexen listed on the Wikipedia list of supported games...

That's not to say that it won't work for sure, but just a heads up in case you were going to buy a PS3 expecting it to play that game!
Didn't even know Hexen had a PS1 port.... OP why don't you play the PC version, I believe all id software/Raven games from that era had their source codes release so their should be a source port you can play it in, for widescreen resolutions and such, I don't believe PS1 is capable of anything above 640x480.

Well using the PS3 i did manage to copy all my saves from my PS1/PS2 cards, then copied them to a thumb drive, and using some program ripped out the saves and got them to work on some emulators just fine... I don't remember the exact process...

I think it's kinda stupid you can't use your PS2 for PS1 games. I mean, seriously, would it be that bad to make a 128k block on the PS2 and you can mount it as your preferred PS1 card saves before you start? I really wish the PS2 had options for archiving your games, like compressing them down (if they could be).
PS1>PS1 memory card

Because the file system is different from PS2 one.
