Seriously, I should be able to remember the name of this game, because I think it was something short and stupid like 'Mazing' (but it's not since that didn't turn up any search results). It's freeware, might have been written in MMF2 (but looked far too SNES-y for MMF2), and the basic premise of the game was that this treasure-hunting explorer girl goes underground to search for treasure, and she needs to keep collecting torches because they're her only weapon (at least the only one I had for as far as I got in the game) and the only means of repelling ghosts. Does anyone remember a game like this? More specifically, does anyone remember the title?

Maybe you can find it in the following list? The pages are in descending order by date, so if it's pretty old you should start at the back of the list...

It wouldn't be in that list. It's a freeware/indie game. Made with either MMF2 or KnP.

Try on this site:

That site is useless as far as it's search engine is concerned. It doesn't 'narrow' the list of games when you pick a specific engine or genre. Rather, it lists news posts that are 'tagged' with the engine name or genre, and even then not in any quickly browsed list. And KnP isn't even listed among the engines used.

Found it. It's called Maziac (alt link). Had trouble finding it on GMG because the current 'Front Page' lead me to believe the whole GMG site was down. I only found it through luck while browsing through my YouTube subscriptions this morning, and one of the 'Suggested Videos' was an LP of the game.
Great that you found! I love these threads when people ask for obscure, oldies. I'm going to check it out myself as I got intrigued by your description. :)

I just tried playing it, and remembered why I stopped. The jumping is bugged, and the framerate is wonky (like it's capped at 15FPS or something). The Jumping is only a problem in the overworld, though, and the 'bug' is that sometimes you just rocket upwards. Nothing wrong with that except sometimes you slam right into a flying enemy or land on one when you can't see where you're falling.
