Sadly it is:-(

Starkrun: Alan Wake was originally designed for a 64bit system running 4gigs minimum on a quad core and at the time SLI radeons.... it was the most advanced computer game at that time dealing with nothing but environmental and lighting effects....

then they canned it and raped the game to work with the crapbox 360 which looks as good as a jersey girl who forgot to bath and has a hook nose and a fuzzy mole on her eye lid at 50yd away in a snow storm wearing neon tights and a flashlight taped to her left hand...
The original Alan Wake screenshots and videos had my mouth gaping open. I don't have an Xbox but from the internet videos I have seen the end product is pretty lacking compared.

Shame.

And now MS talks about a big investment in PC gaming... ha.
I wonder if the game (Alan Wake) actually lost anything for being canned like that. Max Payne was very linear and that's why the athmosphere and story worked. If Alan Wake was a huge sandbox with enemies and tornadoes roaming everywhere I doubt the story could have had as much focus. As for losing graphical quality - I don't give a ****

I'd compare it to Max Payne vs. GTA3. The basic feel was very similiar dark NY crime story and the story of GTA3, like in every GTA, was just a joke

I don't feel sorry or dissapointed about what happened

GTA is supposed to just be silly satire though, even the more serious and narrative-driven GTA4 is more satire than actual drama. Other games, like say Morrowind or Fallout New Vegas, do a great job at giving you a rich meaningful story as well as an open world. Not a cinematic story, which might be what you mean, but a strong story regardless.

It's true the more linear a game is the more cinematic it can be. Bioware make more linear RPGs than many other RPG companies because they focus on cinematic storytelling.
Yea I'm talking about cinematic. I can't imagine AlanWake/MaxPayne style story could be told in a game like GTA/Morrowind/NewVegas. Wake's and Payne's monologue and the scripted events are so important and I doubt open world game can replicate it

IMO it still isn't a tight corridor shooter. On my first playthrough I didn't want to wander off the beaten path because it was often so dark that I wasn't sure how wide the tube really is and there were always enemies lurking in the dark
It is awesome indeed. Haven't played MP1 but loved 2. I did have chance to play MP but never had the will to install it. Dunno why.

How ever I don't think MP3 will never be as good as the originals. If you've seen Max's new look then you know what I mean. Personally I prefer the emo cop as someone described him.
I wonder if he even has the same voice actor. That guy voiced Alex Casey in Alan Wake

SPOILER, kinda:
"This was a late goodbye. Thirteen years after I'd gotten my revenge, it had finally caught up with me. It'd been a long time to bear the pain. My blood painted the snow red -- a gruesome slushie -- dissolved all the scattered painkillers, and leisurely dripped down to the sewer, mingling with the bile of the city, becoming one with it. I can see them now, my wife and my baby. Honey, I'm home."

So I won't consider MP3 an official Max Payne even if it's good.
I remember this E3 presentation for Alan Wake. The guy at Remedy whose smirk was stuck on Max Payne's face came out to do the presentation. He made the face, and the audience went ape shit.
