1. Steam, Impulse, GamersGate, Direct2Drive and even Amazon Direct are all selling Majesty Gold, at about $5.

2. At least GamersGate and Amazon Direct are selling the DRM-free version, (but without any bonus goodies other than the expansion.)

3. Infogrames had the distribution right, which means Atari should have it now.

4. GOG is already distributing a number of Atari games.

5. Why doesn't GOG have Majesty Gold??

I would prefer Majesty AND its expansion (Majesty Gold doesn't work with some additional scenarios and I have Gold version already :P)

Two questions about Majesty Gold:

1. If you have the physical copy, does the CD/DVD have to be in the drive to play the game?
(It is so inconvenient to haul around game discs for a laptop; nowadays everything is about mobility and portability.)

2. Does it have any problem working with WIndows 7 64-bit?

I have it from magazine (it was on cover disc long time ago). As far as I can remember It does not require disc to be in drive (but it could be made only for this cover version). I do not know about Win7 (any version) as I do not have it.

I don't know about the DD copies, but Majesty is a seriously fun game if you like the premise at all. I'd gamble on the 5 dollar DRM free copy, there's a lot there even without whatever extras Steam is throwing in (and I'm pretty sure Gold has them all anyway).
If anyone has an Android phone with a big screen, try getting the mobile version of Majesty!
It's a nearly perfect clone with kind of simplified graphics, but all the mechanics are just copypasta from the full PC version. I was stunned by the level of similarity and it's the same game ;)

Are they really DRM-free, or "DRM-free" (as in e.g. "Steam is not DRM!")?

If so, I could buy it from e.g. GG (I think I have the game already on CD, not sure if it is the Gold edition or not).

I have it and I'd call it the best Android game to date, plays great with touch input.

Good thing is they are constantly updating the game with new levels, only thing missing is a roandom generated free play mode.

GOG should sign up Paradox, they would add even more variety to the catalog.

Problem with that is that GamersGate is basically the de-facto Paradox Games distribution platform [they work hand in hand and I think may have corporate connections or something]. GamersGate carries all Paradox titles [even their older ones - some of which are priced lower than GoG's lowest price point].

I have it and absolutely LOVED the first few maps but then it started locking up...........................
/cry

Can't access from like the 4th map or so....
So you took an interest in where it's being sold, tried tracing the rights and even created this thread.

Yet somehow during all this it never crossed your mind to check the details on every damn site you visited to see who currently has the publishing rights and how it isn't Atari. Amazing.

I am playing the Android version. It is fun. That is why I want to try the original PC version.

IMO, the best Android game to date is Battleheart, a hack-and-slash RPG. Majesty is a good game but not the best, or even the second or third best. I bought Battleheart and Majesty (and a few other games) together, and I have been mostly playing Battleheart. It is a pity that the iOS (iPhone/iPad) version of Battleheart has more contents than the Android version, (because Google foolishly set a 50MB-size download limit for Android apps, and the developer had to cut out contents to fit Battleheart into Android Market.)

I started playing Majesty only after I had completed Battleheart. If you have not played Battleheart, you should definitely check it out:
