Aviadmd: *Ico and Yorda deserve an honorable mention , the simple hand holding expresses more emotion then all the dialog in most games.
Amen to that. The PS2 shock controller also lends a bit of interactivity to the game because the player can feel it every time Ico's awkward, hasty movements pull Yorda around too harshly. ICO is a brilliantly delicate little game. PoPSoT also has a well-done romance that emerges out of a forced partnership. Props to everyone who mentioned it.
JRPGS are usually a bit too teen-centric for me, but I liked the nods toward a Balthier/Fran romance (in addition to rather than as the basis of their business partnership) in FFXII. I think my favorite game romance is in The Witcher, though. The Triss romance option is headed for a major disaster, I suspect, which makes it interesting to pursue.
