How do you deal with revolts in this game? My 52,000 strong army with 100% maintenance has just been whupped by 7000 revolutionaries. I get results like this all the time and as the game continues my armies inability to quell rebellion just leads to more unrest.

Any tips on what i am doing wrong would be great. Thanks.

Cavalry is the most effective unit against rebels.

I'm playing as Japan and i used infantry in the mountains and cavalry on the plains. I always have superior numbers and never win outright, or fail completely to prevent them taking a province.

Just leave them be for a bit and let attrition kill them off. Once their numbers are lower, charge in with a massive army of Cavalry and mop up the survivors.

Alternatively, get in there before the revolt happens and figure out what's causing the people to become unhappy; there's usually something you can "fix".

Are you losing the battles or just failing to destroy the enemy army outright on the first attack? Also, as a Paradox game, there are many factors that influence the battles. Terrain and leaders being the major ones. If you are attacking them and they are on terrain that gives them a good defensive bonus or their leader is better than the leader of your army, they will be tough to beat.

While I don't have experience with For the Glory or EUII (which For the Glory is based off of) I have played EUIII. If the combat works like it does in EUIII, even though you greatly outnumber them, you may not be able to bring all your units to bear on them. Assuming you don't have artillery, and the units are 1000 men strong, you can only have 11,000 men be effective against an army of 7,000 men. This is because a unit on the battle grid can only attack a unit directly in front of it or up to two blocks to either side. So in your case, against 7,000 rebels, 11,000 of your troops are fighting while the other 41,000 are basically being held in reserve since they can't engage.

So basically, if the enemy has better position and or a better general, your armies moral is going to drop faster than theirs. When your moral hits 0, you retreat and lose the battle. Even if you win the battle, you aren't guaranteed to destroy the rebels outright. You may need to chase them and engage a few times to get rid of a 7000 strong rebel army.

Also, you might better and more detailed help at the Paradox forums for For the Glory
