I was reliving some 90's memories on youtube tonight and stumbled across the 10,000 Maniacs classic "Trouble Me." Look at this video, recorded off MTV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXnDGEM2oOg

It's about a sweet looking and fully covered woman taking care of her grandma! Jesus! Can you imagine this video existing today?

Even ignore the whole "MTV doesn't show music videos anymore" thing, can you see our current sex-obsessed, fast-paced and "it has to be edgy and cool whatever that is or it sucks" culture breeding a video like this?
If all you're watching are Disturbed and 50 Cent videos, then I guess yeah, it might be hard to imagine music videos like this. If not, then no.

The point is that it was on MTV.
MTWhat?

Alright, let me be more clear.

When I was a young teenager watching MTV because that is what kids do I saw videos like this one. Now-a-days when 14 year old girls watch MTV they see porn, basically.

It shapes people, more than we want to admit.
There's a station that calls itself the music television channel that has no music and no videos? What madness is this?

My wife actually watches "Teen Mom" on it... I try not to think about it.

The teens they showcase are seriously so stupid they are borderline retarded. My wife watches it to make fun of them basically, but even then I have no idea how she bears it.
Those poor, poor babies. :(

It is disturbing that MTV is somehow still on the air though. I hope VH1 is doing better. Their Pop Up Video show was awesome, and their live performance thingie, and even their made for TV movie about Meatloaf was pretty cool.

I watched a lot of VH1 from like 95-97 for pop-up video and their general lack of idiotic music. Last I checked though they are just as bad as MTV now with tons of rap shit and reality shows.
How the mighty have fallen.

I wonder if most artists now just release their music videos straight to their channels on YouTube. It's cool that it's gotten to the point (or, has been for a few years now) that the Internet is where they know they can get the widest audience.

....widest paying audience may be a different thing altogether though.
I only thing i know about MTV was Beavis and Butthead, it's spin off Daria was far Superior

I HATE Daria. I want to stab them all. My old flatmate was obsessed with her and watched it over and over and over and over....

I think for pretty much all TV shows once is generally enough for every few years. when i was 12-14 i only took an interest in Daria because the amount of show worth watching were dwindling due to complaints of their content (hell reruns of show i had seen before were better than what was on most stations)

Something that did really pissed was the Pokemon TV show just as thought they might stop airing it, they would go back to the beginning i think they did that here about six times and they would do it with DBZ as well
