Hi all,

we've restored the old reputation system. That means that the exploit allowing for wild rep changes won't happen again. During next week we will recalculate reputation of each forum user according to the old rules. I guess gameRager is going to be particularly happy about this one.

Hi all,

The rep system has its bugs (ie. artificial boosting / downranking) and these will be fixed soon. If it wasn't communicated yet, then I'm sorry for the lack of response from the devs - trust me they are super crazy busy. However, since we track all changes in rep, this can be done always, therefore this is not the top priority task right now vs spam or preparing to release next Hasbro titles / some other very sweet stuff planned for Nov and Dec :)

Now, as for this topic... the only thing you will achieve by this +rep extravaganza here is that the devs will have to spend more time on undoing all this instead of, for example, focusing on fixes and new stuff mentioned above :)

LordGremlin: I still don't understand how the damn system works at all... It sums post ratings or what?
Well as I've mentioned above, the mechanism that awards points is apparently buggy and therefore the entire thing has nothing to do with how it's supposed to work... so I don't think anyone can explain it to you now ;).

Seriously though this will work pretty much as in beta times, meaning: majority of positive rep will be awarded for solving problems on the forums to highlight and award people who help in our community the most. It will be also possible to get a very little bit of +/- rep for getting a lot of +/- ratings per post (but this will be limited per day, so it won't be possible to abuse it by up/down-ranking someone).

Vitek: So was it changed from beta stage and it got broken or it was kept the same but broke with going out of beta? If the former why did you even change it? I was content with it and almost nobody ever complained.
The system was meant to be the same as the one rolled in early 2009 and went on until the end of beta (which is pretty much what I've said above - majority of rep from helping others + a little bit of rep for getting lots of positive / negative votes, but capped daily to avoid what is happening out here). The system still uses the same rules but the daily caps seem to be broken.

emileneth: Limited per day? No please
What I meant is that there's supposed to be a daily cap on the amount of rep any user can get when being +/- voted by others, so we won't have situations where a group of people (one user with multi account bury brigade) would be abusing the system. There's no cap on the amount of votes you can give, however it won't translate to infinite stream of rep for others :)

pops117: You seem most eager to stick to the system? Why's that?
As I've said earlier, rep system was meant to be a way to promote users who solve problems in the question / problem topics. Sure, votes on the posts were affecting it as well, but the ratios were like 80-90% for solving problems vs 10-20% for being active on the forums and posting interesting / funny / helpful stuff. We had a cap on the number of rep any user could get from the "votes" so creating fake accounts for voting purposes had zero effect. That's how it was in 2009 and 2010 and for most part it worked great.

Now, the completely different thing is that due to a stupid bug (and a group of users that decided to exploit it for various reasons, mostly fun ;) the system completely lost it's meaning now and I totally agree that right now it just doesn't work... But that does not mean in can't be fixed.

Of course there is and will be a group of people that just can't stand any rep / points / stars / magic mushroom awards ;), no matter how does the system behind it work, although judging from the feedback we got in the past 2 years there are very very few requests like that. Maybe we should add an option to manually hide the rep number via settings menu for users who don't like it... I'm pretty sure we will discuss it in the near future, but first we need to handle the spam problem :).
