You're thinking of Little Big Planet - 2 very different things!
I think in the States it was called 'Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure' if that helps

ah I was looking at this http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/573157-little-big-adventure-twinsens-adventure
The combination of these two games made my childhood better... and worse, at the same time. Hard as nails to beat, or indeed to just get out of prison / island. The difficulty would be considered Brutal today, and that was Normal at the time.

I tried playing that game when I was younger and I gave up because it was too hard and fustrating. You could only save at save points and when you got caught or killed, you had to replay from the save point, so I just gave up. The game itself looked really good for its time. It had a unique look to it that made you want to play.

Well they are the same game, just a different platform.

Fortunately the second one fixed all this. And even when you die, it pops you right back into action, one clover poorer.
I replayed the second one a couple of months ago, and it was as joyful an experience as I remembered from the days of yore. It was a pain to properly run it in Win XP on a modern comp, though, unofficial fixes and workarounds were required.
I seem to have good memories of LBA 1-2, played them through sometime in late 1990s or so. Enchanting action-adventures with very catchy music, if I remember right. I should have the CDs still somewhere, maybe retry them a bit someday...
