Sooo a friend from work game me a new phone that apprently can tether to my laptop with no extra charge to my unlimited data plan! This is great news to me because now I get internet through my phone at no extra cost so screw you comcast with your 40$ a month plans! :D Happy days!

Indeed, what's worse is that AT&T and similar are wanting to charge for the right to tether and they want to charge you based upon the data used.

If they're charging based upon the data used, precisely what is it that makes them think they have the right to also charge for the privilege of tethering?

What's more, how is that any different then downloading to my phone and copying the files to my laptop via bluetooth or USB cable.

So, yes, it's the biggest scam since charging for test messages and incoming calls. But slightly more so than charging people to check their voicemail.
