Soggy_crackers: Well, thankfully one of my daughters is staying with me (the other is moving out with mom) so I'll have to make sure she eats and maybe that will help me to remember to eat as well!

Luned: Pick up Civ IV when it goes on sale (I got the whole shebang for about $10 from D2D a while back) and get the Fall from Heaven mod. If you live alone, make sure someone calls to remind you to eat at least once a day. :D

As for Civ I'm actually pretty stuck on Civ V right now... way too many lost hours of sleep! I've never actually played Civ IV though (the earlier ones, yes) how would it compare to CIv V in terms of "just one last turn"? At $10 it seems it would be worth a go at any rate!
Unfortunately I can't make the comparison since I don't have Civ V. Plus the Fall from Heaven mod has a huge number of differences from regular Civ IV, but it's a glorious timesink. (Link to the FfH section at civfanatics.net )

Mentalepsy: The Might & Magic collection is one of the best values on GOG, and will keep you busy for a while.

Soggy_crackers: Actually a friend of mine just picked that up on GOG here... seems something that could be a good bet! I've played the earlier ones, but what is the multiplayer like? Seems like a good game to have some friends over and a case of beer.
Might and Magic has no multiplayer.

I'd agree that M&M might be a great value for $-to-time-to-beat, but not $-to-time-to-enjoy. I've blown plenty of 4 to 8 hours stints on M&M, don't get me wrong. But Neverwinter Nights has it beat hands down by a good long shot.

DDO has been a blast, but I'd warn to stay away from the Lord of the Rings Online free-to-play game.

Also, if you want to lose your life for a good a few years for free, play City of Arabel or another good story-rich multiplayer server on Neverwinter Nights. Just beware of the lag monster. It kills far more than Beholders.

Another good cheap game that I've spent countless hours on is Mount and Blade. It's definitely not for everyone. But holy smokes I've wasted my life on that game. When I die, I'll probably be ashamed of my life's pie chart of spent time. NWN and Mount and Blade will get their own pie pieces.

Soggy_crackers: D&D online... now that's an option! I am a big MMO fan, and the free sounds right up my ally! As for the shaving suggestion, thanks for that but believe it or not I actually just shave with a beard trimmer that has the guard removed so a little stubble is left.... I'm a 30 year old man, and I look 12 when I'm clean shaven... not something that I'm fond of.
Give it a few years and you will be:)
