Anyone remember playing this during the days of the old dial-up local bbs's?

I did, and I loved it. I've got a friend up in Canada (well, up from where I live in the US) who decided to revive LORD and we're having a blast playing it again. I even wrote a couple of IGMs for it!

Well, I tried it. Unfortunately, it seems to read keyboard codes directly, rather than character input. Basically this means that it only supports US keyboards. It doesn't matter to me for most things, because all the letters are in the same place on a Danish keyboard. The question mark is not however, and since that is used for the Help function, it's a bit annoying. It also seems to register the Shift key as a separate keystroke.

Well, that's certainly interesting...especially since you played it during the "hardware handshake" days of dial-up. Did you have a US keyboard then?

I played this all the time back in the early to mid 90's! I will certainly check it out.

No, I didn't. However, since I played it on a Danish BBS, I suppose it may have been configured server-side to use Danish keyboard codes instead. Hmm, I may try that one as well. Oh yeah, Usurper. I played that one as well. Both of them played second fiddle to Valhalla through. That's what I spent most of my online time on back then.

Was Valhalla a bbs door game? I can't find anything on it. I remember Usurper, but not Valhalla.

No, it was a MUD, but accessed in the same way, i.e. I dialled the server directly with my modem. It ran on the DikuMUD engine. I believe there were two of them (at least), one in Denmark and one somewhere else (presumably in the US or the UK). When they moved from their locally dialled servers and onto the internet, the Danish one (which is the one I used) changed its name to Valheru, presumably to avoid the two getting confused by people.
