EC-: ...
Thanks for the info. The options sound comprehensive enough that I'd almost certainly be able to find something that I'm happy with.

SirPrimalform: There's a bit of confusion happening here. Yes, the MSX is a real computer and it featured in the original version of La Mulana, but in the remake the computer has a made up name that happens to spell MSX. This is what EC- is referring to. :P

EC-: Ah, ok, as I said I never played the original :-D
Yeah, I was just trying to explain to grviper (who might not know that the computer isn't actually called an MSX any more in the remake, presumably to do with copyright issues). ;)

I'd say so. If you do pick it up and are able to find out what those two filters are technically called, I'd love to know.

If you can take some comparison screen shots I might be able to have a guess now.

I think type 1 is bilinear and type 2 might be bicubic (more demanding but less blurry). They're both definitely 'normal' interpolation. I was half expecting one of them to be one of the 'smart' algorithms like SuperSaI or hq2x.

I really want this but I've banned myself from buying games not on sale (ones where there's no reason to buy them right that moment) until I've reduced my backlog. =(

Cool, I learned something today :-)

I had the same thought but the disco advertisement video was just too awesome for me to resist. I just tossed it in with the rest of my backlog :-P

Chocolate Castle is a dangerous thing to keep in the backlog. One day you'll run it, breathe through the first two puzzle sets in an evening or two, think you'll switch to something new in a day... And then it gets hard and you stare at one puzzle for hours trying to figure out "how the fuck?".

Backlog? You don't know the meaning of backlog!

Seriously, mine is terrifyingly big. I'm too embarrassed to say how big though. The only way I can cope with it is to just get on with the game I'm currently concentrating and think about which game will take its place once I've finished it.

Sabin_Stargem: La-Mulana was an freeware platformer that was released around 2005, which I very much enjoyed when I played it. When I heard about the remake, I pretty much frothed at the mouth to play it. The basic idea of La-Mulana is to explore some ruins to find treasure, similar to Castlevania after Symphony of the Night, and it has puzzles similar to what Zelda would possess. This game is very retro in style, so don't be suprised at cussing out the bats and skeletons that would knock you off platforms.

The remake is currently only available at Playsim for $15. The game would be tied to an account, similar to GOG, in that the game is DRM-free and can always be downloaded. Fortunately, if you want to try out the game before buying, you can play the original freeware version, though some caveats should be noted: The original was built specifically to be an old-school platformer with graphics and music similar to the MSX, which was an Japanese computer that was pretty ancient. The original is less user-friendly, so keep that in mind as you play.

lugum: rick dangerous :p
Jupp!
Definently reminds me much more of Rick Dangerous then Castlevania or Zelda. This actually looks like a RD-sequal (- the japanese).

It looks fun.
