just fyi, from my experience, you have to disable DEP to get KOTOR to run. also, I had to replace the miles soundsystem dll for KOTOR 2 with KOTOR 1's in order to get that to run. on top of that, the securom in KOTOR never fucking worked for me and I couldn't get the game running with it. no idea if securom is patched out of the one they sell on steam now or not.

I had no idea that the TSL patch was still being developed. that is just amazing. I can't believe they've added a whole new addon to it as well. just amazing.

CptFandango: star wars 1313 was a massive tragedy :( did anyone see the gameplay trailers? It looked sick! then disney dropped it like a hot brick :(
When it was announced that it was essentially dead was one of my saddest days as a gamer. It was easily my #1 most anticipated game. It looked incredible.

FlynnArrowstarr: Yeah, the thing I'm concerned with is that the installer will be 16-bit and I'll have to mess with virtual machines and other fun things.

Might be time to resurrect my old Win98 laptop. IIRC its a P-233, but I can't remember how big the hard drive is or how much memory it has (16 MB or 32 MB, I think). At the time I got it from a co-worker, I couldn't get Might & Magic 6 or 7 to work in Windows XP, heh.

Klumpen0815: Linux and WINE may be a way to go too. It usually is a good solution for very old Windows games and somewhere in the net people are around that already configured everything the right way.
I thought about that as well, but I didn't want to mess with that for the time being. I do want to try Linux on my laptop at some point, though. So I'll give it a try at some point. =)

I have also thought about making a small Windows 7 32-bit partition and use that for older games. Which may also work pretty well.

CptFandango: Cheers for the advice!

I just downloaded those two mods for when I get the games :) Are there any ones you recommend for the original game?

I'm probably just gonna hold out for a steam sale or a humble/bundlestars bundle, unless I get a combination of desperation to play and some spare cash xD
Check the downloads in deadlystream, they have much more good mods for kotor and kotor2 (like Handmaiden for females:).

tinyE: Have you ever actually finished KOTOR1, and by that I mean do you know the BIG ending?

EDIT
Shit, I just realized that came off as kind of pretentious, and I didn't mean it to. It's just that there is a beautiful twist near the end of #1 which makes a seemingly aimless plot come together. I won't say any more than than but anyone here who has played it through knows what I'm talking about.
avatar
snowkatt: after 11 years its not really that much of a spoiler any more
but i am aware of the big twist i got to it on my second play through but i never actually finished kotor 1

it just doesnt grab me the same way kotor 2 did and does
im more lamenting the fact that kotor 2's ending is os ass and still hoping that one day the restoration project can fix it
Did you check TSLRCM, I think it makes sense now :)

Did you try using a no CD exe, they usually circumvent the secureROM which is what is giving you trouble.

It's my birthday on the 9th and my brother is going to buy me them both :D:D:D:D::D
Just trying to mod KOTOR 1 today and get it working etc.

I managed to get it going in 2550 x 1440 using the flawless widescreen program and following a guide on youtube and everything seemed to be working fine until I reached taris. I got a crash and I keep getting a window popping up saying invalid bumpmap, you have to click ok to get rid of the window then another 20 or so pop up. This also happens when reloading a saved game and its making the game unplayable

Mods i have installed are

Brotherhood of Shadow: Solomon’s Revenge (with 1.1 patch)
Bastila Romance Enhancement
Enhanced Merchants for K1

and koror ultimate texture pack with upper taris hd and ebon hawk hd

Any help would be massively appreciated, I am eager to get stuck into this game

cheers in advance :)

Edit : I just googled a little harder and found this conversation

https://www.facebook.com/kotorultimatemod/posts/570481253028360

so im gonna try this but it kind of defies the point of installing a texture pack if you cant use the replacement textures :/

Now I have deleted the files causing the error message it has stopped for now but I cannot see the resolutions implanted by flawless widescreen anymore... :( what a pain in the arse this is.

What mod did the files belong to? Was it caused by the widescreen hack?

Cheers for responding :)

I think the files were part off the taris download of the ultimate texture mod, I am playing in 2550 x 1440 again now, I just shut the game down and flawless widescreen and re opened them in various combinations and eventually the resolutions appeared in the graphics menu

Hope I dont have to do this every time I start! maybe the taris textures conflict with his main texture pack? anyways ill play on and check back if I have any more issues that I cant google my way out of
best way to play this game really is on windows xp
either via a vm ( ha ha ha ..ahem ) or actual hardware ( partittion or dedicated machine )

i actually have windows xp installed on my imac for difficutl games

NP. Actually my post was initially going to ask what form the mods take. Do they use the TSL patcher, or are they straight-to-Override? Also, were any files overwritten in the process? In what order did you install the mods? My initial assumption was that one of the database files was corrupt, due to mod interference, but I don't think that would be resolved with simple file removal. In any case, I don't think the Romance or Merchants mods have anything to do with it.

So what files did you delete, textures? What were they called? I've not played around with flawless widescreen yet, so not sure what kind of problems it could produce.

I actually had 0 problems getting it to run on 8.1. Considering I'd barely even touched 7 and up until less than a year ago, I'm often baffled by all the problems people seem to be having and attributing to 8.
