Anyone know much about this? it's going for $5 on GamersGate - looks to be pre-Spellforce.

Check out the Home Page and there is Demo. Seems to be an RTS / RPG Blend. I have not played it but you can check out this Review

Cool, thanks for the links. I've seen several reviews so far but not that one.

I might get it.

Savage 2 looks to be the best of these types of games but it's online only.

Good luck.
Spellforce like game? I'm interested.

Yup, and if you like RTS/Third Person Action hybrids I'd also suggest Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War which is getting distributed freely at Big Download (found out after I payed $26 for it last week).

Also, Iron Grip Warlord is an FPS with Tower Defense and RTS overhead placement features. It's really cool but mostly focus for online but you can play it offline against bots.

I know about that one. I ran a big list of games that were free for an old gaming clan on Xfire.
Haven't got a chance to download it. Recommend it why?

It's a lot of fun. I'll tell ya right now - your units won't follow orders very well, they'll go all higgely piggely about the place and sometimes you'll feel like your racing to sloppily mass amount units to throw into a viscous and mindless tug of war but the game looks and runs good and it's a lot of fun being able to jump right down into third-person perspective of the battle and hack n slash control of your commander.
It is a mix of RPG + RTS. The RPG segments difficulty is pretty steep, but it's quite fun. I don't recall much of the RTS side of it, but I remember enjoying the game back when it was released.

From what I've just figured out, Knight Shifts RTS mode is seperate from the others but items found and levels gained carry over into story campaign and RPG mode.

So I think the RTS bit isn't directly integrated like it is in Spellforce.
I seem to recall you can play a 100% RPG game, and 100% RTS game and a mix of both. Don't hold me to that but there's definitely a mode where its 100% RPG.
I've got it installed but haven't ran it yet. I was busy getting my free copy of Tribes 2 to work. Oh and for the person whom I suggested to run and pull Rise & Fall from Big Download - you're much better purchasing a copy - R&S will only download in full if you have Win XP set in service pack 2 compatibility mode with admin rights and once you get it, it's all spam and ad promoted. =( -EDIT-I've had a chance to play it. All three modes are pretty much over head RTS like. You always click on what you want to attack and your main character will run over and start attacking it like Diablo. Only thing RPG-like is that you can level up, place skill points, acquire and equip new items and have special abilities you can select for your main character.

The differences between the three modes are this

Campaign - Provides a story backing up gameplay
RPG - has no story, pick a character, pick a map and then run around the map completing quests.
Skrimish - Place buildings and harvest resources to build units in goal to take down the offensive side.

The perspective, control and action are the same for all three modes.

It's a decent game. I think a solid $5 USD marks it pretty well.
