One of the threads started by Petrell reminded me of this indie game that I have to share with you guys. It's called King of Dragon Pass, a game virtually unheard of except through word of mouth. It's hard to explain what exactly it is, but it combines elements from many different games. It's like a text based RPG (Space Rangers 2 style), combined with strategy elements from games like Lord of the Realms and Majesty. Personally, the game was a turn off at first sight. There are no animations at all - it's basically like one big interactive storybook. In fact I think it is made Flash. However, playing through the demo changed my mind about it. It's not amazingly amazing, but it is surprisingly fun, so I urge you guys to check it out here:

KoDP is a really great game, and you can still buy copies direct from the developers. Win all around.
I want it on digital distribution!! Give it to me on digital distribution and I'll buy it!
They can't make the game available for download because of a problem with the game CD or something, that's what i hear from one of the developers.

Does the game come in a box with the manual? If so, I'll buy it in a flash.

Originally it came in box, game CD, manual, 2 sided quick reference guide and registeration form but their purchasing page indigates they'll only burn you a copy and ship it to you for 19.95 $ + shipping. It does not say anything about manual or quick reference quide.
Attached are photos of box and it's content I just took.
I'd insta buy it if it would become available in GOG. Maybe I should try it out at some point to see if it still runs...

That edition looks insanely cool.

No, they burn an image onto a CD-R and ship it to you. Also they give you access to downloadable PDF's of the manuals.
Not very pretty, but they get the money and you get a legal copy.

Thank you. Shall I take photos of rest of my 200+ game collection ;) :P
It's actually the standard box set sold everywhere back then as far as I know. Amazingly good and interesting game all things considered and only game based on world of Glorantha and Runequest rpg system (well hero wars to be more precise) I know of.

Yeah, I also have plenty of this old boxed games, that's why I love them.
King of Dragon Pass works perfectly on XP and 7 (and presumably Vista too), no compatibility mode or anything needed. :)

Yeah, me too. It's one of those games that I know I need to play.

Shit. I really like the pictures posted by Petrell. How I wish they'd still sell the game in a big box
