I've played the prototype and can confirm that this is a must buy now that the developers have dropped $7 off the price they were asking.

Also, coming soon - this looks pretty friggin' awesome....and unlike the controversial Banzai I'm pretty sure this will hit Steam as well.

Now where the hell did Skullgirls go?

It went Steamworks, that's where. ;_;

As for Banzai Pecan, I am definitely interested in picking that one up. I'm afraid I'm a wee bit too broke for that, but I loved the demo. Games like that always remind me that Desura doesn't seem to have a wishlist feature for some reason...

Wow, that looks goddamn awful. But then, as someone who vehemently loathes manga-style graphics, and the pathetic slideshow that the Japanese use instead of animation, I doubt I'm in their target demographic.
Yyyeah, the animation reminded me slightly of this classic.

The Oomph behind this game is presentation - even from the simplest things like the way the way the title to the game is introduced and the soundtrack backing it up - It's so friggin' Barbarella and so awesomely, yet accidentally, timed during another shit stir concerning exploitation of female roles in video games.

I was complaining about modern day tech and sprites in another thread noting that now that sprites don't have to be extensively optimized, kids can copy their doodles from their math folders and make them sprites.

Although this guy's artwork is decent he may have benefited submitting his drawing to a professional illustrator who could've polished them up to look more immacualtely processed.

I know that might be a blow to the passion of artists everywhere but art is one thing that gets better the further away it gets from freehand.

And even then, it's not necessarily the character sprites that appear to lack budget but the backgrounds.

But having admitted this the sound track, style, game play, theme and presentation are all spot on.

Banzai Pecan reminds me of the godawful SNES port of Captain America and the Avengers. As in, it looks like it controls horribly. Guess I'm not interested in button mashers in my old age. And I have no real issues with the graphics. If they were going for a bargain basement look, then they succeeded.

Wooden Sen'Sey looks interesting though.

I think that is a bit of an unfair statement. I'm not a huge anime fan, but I've watch a handful of animes (somewhere in the region of 5, and tried to watch a few more). Some are indeed horrible, and some are well animated. Much like western animation.

Well, I don't think I've ever seen any Japanese hand-drawn animation with more than (at a guess) four frames per second. And forget about lip-syncing. There's only two states: mouth open and mouth closed.
I was interested in this game, but as soon as I saw the video and saw how choppy the animation is, I lost interest. Is it really that bad in action? This kind of game can require precision movement, so it should have fluid animation. I didn't realize there is a demo, maybe I should try that first.
