hedwards: I do as well, IIRC those mostly died out when the Pentium class chips took over. I remember not being able to play Doom II because my computer lacked a math coprocessor. Making it a 386SX rather than the required 386DX. Or was it the lack of RAM? I can't quite remember.
I had a 68LC040 rather than a 68040, so some programs wouldn't run unless I had SoftFPU installed (and though math-heavy applications sometimes would run then, it'd be slow as fuck).

Anyhow, my point was; "CPU" has never, as far as I can remember, meant "everything inside the computer case", but only "the main processor" as in "Central Processing Unit".
