And it was an absolute blast. All the awesome over-the-top hoakiness of early B&W horror films combined with Vincent Price's sophisticated creepiness and a ghost story ripe with twists. Was it technically a good movie? Naw, not really. Apart from Price the acting was pretty bland, the scares were pretty silly, and there were a ton of plot holes. But it was loads of fun, and I highly recommend it to anyone who just wants to kick back and experience the "haunted house" frights of a bygone era.

I guess there's also a remake. No idea how it holds up.

The remake's decent as a haunted house movie. No idea about the sequel though. Yeah, House on Haunted Hill is pretty great. In fact, just yesterday I re-watched it. Or was it the day before?
Can't go wrong with Price.

I love this old Price classic! There is a remake starring (I think) Geoffrey Rush that is actually pretty decent.

My favorite over-the-top Vincent Price classic is "The Tingler". It's about a doctor (Price) who thinks every human has a monster/creature growing in their spine that is kept at bay by our ability to scream when we're frightened. A real hoot!
If you like Price, you must hear This. That guy had some Mad skillz. ;-D

I enjoyed both the original and the re-make although they are quite different animals.

Price of course was excellent, but Geoffrey Rush made a great villain as well!

Well you can definitely see Geoffrey Rush channeling Vincent Price in the movie (not imitating, but channeling) and of course, being Geoffrey Rush, doing an awesome job. Though I am not sure that Rush is really the bad guy in the movie. :)

That's one of the movies on my to watch list. I've a ton of horror films on there because I don't especially enjoy watching them alone. (.__.) One of the problems of having friends all scattered around is that you usually have to have movie nights over Skype.

Heh, I guess it'd be bad to start dating some guy just to empty my movie backlog.
