RaggieRags: I'd actually rather have SS1. I have it on discs, but I have no disc drive. :-(
Isn't it freeware?

Huh? Really?
It isn't officially, but there's so called System Shock Portable, which packs SS1 with DOSBox and a hacks for mouselook and increased resolution.

In that sense, all games are freeware.

Yeah, but for some reason that package is more often dubbed freeware than such stuff usually is. I guess, people wish for their dreams to come true too hard.
Awesome, thanks for telling me! :-D

I don't usually go for "unofficially" freeware games, but I own the original game, so...

orcishgamer: I'm well aware that my CD may go at some point, your DVDs can as well contrary to popular belief. If they do go I still have a perfect digital ISO image file. No I don't have offsite storage, I suppose if I was really paranoid I could get some.

GameRager: According to the wiki page DVDs are much less susceptible than CDs and gold reflective layered discs(master discs) are very good at rot prevention, over standard aluminum layered ones. Just buy some gold layer DVDs and back up everything I guess if you want to keep physical 1:1 copies.
Your glue can still rot. Some discs are far better manufactured, this is true. Some discs will last 25 years and some will last less than 5. It's important to be picky when choosing burnable media for backups that must last over 1 year.
