SeeDMako: why does Gothic 2 not run on windows 7? There is written only compatibility with xp and vista. :/
That's because that's the way it is. You're best off not getting it until GOG have finally sorted it out.

Who says it doesn't run on Win7? I own it, but haven't tried installing on my Win7 rig, so just curious if you've seen reports it doesn't run.
My Gothic 2 from GOG runs fine on my Windows 7 64-Bit.
so, buy or not to buy? mm
I was really disappointed with JoWooD when I went to their site to investigate some of the games. I see they have links to Amazon which is selling these games at hugely inflated prices and in some cases no chance of running on a modern machine out of the box. Why don't they have a link to GOG?
Dude, why is the first Gothic not listed? Sorry if I'm not the first to ask this in the thread.

GameRager: I don't think JoWood made or published it....I know it's mentioned somewhere in this thread though. Since that's the case, that's why it wasn't put in the sale as well.

EDIT: I was this close to saying "cuz it's controls sucked lololol", but thought better of it. I hope I made the right choice.
LOL. I overcame the controls for it with my handy dandy and oh-so-programmable Dual Action Logitech gamepad. =P

GameRager: Niiiiice...but try playing it on a KEYBOARD. I didn't get into it much but if I recall correctly the game didn't allow one to modify the control keys, or at least not easily, when on a keyboard.
The keyboard layout made absolutely no sense. I loaded it for thirty seconds of play and ran straight to program my gamepad.

I'm not a fundie for Logitech or anything like that but there has yet to be a game that I haven't been able to make a profile for. Only thing is using the right analogue stick to control the mouse cursor isn't nearly as intuitive as using the mouse itself.

GameRager: The staff often have to wrangle in the code a bit for non dosbox games to run in newer OSs....don't ask me how though. Maybe it's a bit of polish shamanistic magiks, or some secret guarded recipe for optimal gamefixery. Either way, this is one of the reasons some games take awhile to come to gog....they simply need to be made to work on most or all newer windows OSs before being released. Sometimes we're lucky and this covers all of them, including Windows 7. Sometimes they can get a whole bunch of OSs to work and have trouble on Windows 7 alone....so they release the game as is and continue working on 7 compatibility in the future.

Lucky for me I have Vista, and if I ever dual boot, it will be vista/7 to allow me the functionality of Vista for older games and the new features of 7.
So, do you think, they will make a compatibility with 7 too?

Would anyone happen to have an unclaimed gift of this promo I can purchase?

I went to lie down as I had a splitting headache, but awakened after the promo had ended.
I felt like hitting myself in the head but, you know...the headache.

Thanks for offering the sale anyway, GOG/JoWooD.

GameRager: Did you check the Gothic/Gothic 2 forum here?

Gothic series forum

Maybe they can be of help to you in getting it running for now or to find out if and when Windows 7 support will be added. :)
They work just fine in win 7 after some tweaking. No one seems to want to help make it work better, though. (btw best games ever made, esp. #2)
