Veneteaou: My intended point is that the software is resource-hogging if it needs dozens of times more RAM than the old games it allows you to play.

Navagon: Then you must hate DOSbox and most other emulators then. DOSbox needs 1GB as an absolute bare minimum of 1GB to run smoothly, and I know that from first hand experience.
I hate to rain on that parade, but DOSbox runs games just fine for me and I'm sitting with 768MB of ram. Still, I'm not using it with a loading program.

catpower1980: I understand :) (in fact, it's installed on my "try everything and see what happens" computer as I keep my "pure gaming and entertainment" computer strictly offline)
Well, some "interesting third party plugins" can remain hidden for a really long period of time just to activate on some selected day ;)

Pheace: With RAM being so cheap that really shouldn't happen to be honest, but I can understand not liking the idea of unknown clients being installed.
In my case it's also my old CPU power. Additional things running all the time are not good :D

I ran DOSBox with 512MB on my old WinXP computer and I never encountered any issues with anything, software and games alike. Everything worked like a charm.

I know my computer is a bit of a monster but I think long as I don't actively use Origin/Steam they don't use any processing power? Just says CPU 00 .

Trust me, I can easily create hard time for my CPU with many applications opened ;) And then, even smallest one can cause some bad side effects :D

For me, some things did. Other things really just didn't. If you were to realistically state DOSbox's requirements then it would be above 1GB, otherwise they'd be getting a lot of complaints.

Either way it's pretty much irrelevant to the point. Unless you're saying that DOSbox doesn't need more than, say, 32MB to work properly. Emulators always need a LOT more than the original requirements to work properly.

Face facts, Veneteaou, the reason you're rejecting it isn't the fact that the requirements are unrealistically high. It's the fact that, for some reason, your computer doesn't meet them.
