rtcvb32: I know ShadowRun for the genesis was interesting. There was a note/message/easter egg from Sega talking to you as the player rather than being game related basically congratulating you and thanking you for playing their game... I wonder if i can get a screenshot...
ShadowRun was on the Genesis? I only saw the Snes version, was it the same? The Genesis completely eluded me back then... but then again, I probably wasn't over 10 years old.

What's the question exactly? Are you asking if I had a Megadrive? Are you asking if I know what a Megadrive is? I'll answer those: No I didn't own one, and yes I know what it is... I said the Genesis eluded me not that I had no idea what it was.

ALL the questions.

And he covered Unrest as a Steam Greenlight game instead of a GOG release.

Might have been the megedrive, i don't remember exactly.

As for the differences, they are VERY different.

The Genesis version follows the structures and the rules of the pen & paper version of the game a lot closer. Unlike the SNES version which was pretty much everything ranged, in the Sega genesis you could have up to 2 other companions (party of 3), you could do melee or ranged or magic, etc. At the beginning you get a choice of if you'd want to be a decker, a samari (melee) or... i forget the third choice, probably a sniper...

The story is quite different. Your brother is killed and you got a feed of it, so you're tracking down who game him the job that backstabbed him so you could avenge him.

A large portion of the game is taking jobs. Go deliver this package. Tell this gang to lay off on attacking civilians, go steal this data file from this corporation. Patch this data file, etc. There's lots of side objectives you can do too, like stealing data and selling it for thousands of creds. After each mission you get karma, which you use to upgrade your skills. Skill cost more and more to upgrade each time. The way the system works is explained in the Pen and paper games so if you read those you get an understanding of the game more.

Unless you're in the matrix, the game is top down rather than isometic.

There's just so many differences. I honestly think the SNES one sucked, and if you play several hours in the Shadowrun from the genesis you'll probably agree.

Kristian: Another way to think about it currently some developers and/or publishers are excusing the use of CEG because of all the other features that Steamworks offers. That line of reasoning won't hold up to scrutiny if those developers can get the same feature set from Galaxy!
Which developers are these? CEG is not a requirement of using Steamworks. Though using it has it's benefits, so it's not surprising a lot do. Forcing people to be on the same patch does wonders for customer support for instance.

I quite enjoyed the SNES one when I played through it some years ago.
Although I never ever was into Sega consoles I may try the Genesis game too at some point if it's supposed to be better, but I am no pen'n'paper gamer and never was.

I know i beat the SNES one a while back... but as i said, it's all ranged attacks. Decent music and portraits but otherwise it was lacking.

Understanding the pen and paper side isn't required. But seeing how having a skill of 3 and what that actually means. For Shadowrun the dice are all D6, so if you have a challenge to do something, say hitting someone with a target of 4, then if you hit 4 with one or more dice than you do damage. For every 3 dice that hit the target difficulty the damage goes up one rating so you do more for being more skilled and hitting more often.

Lastly there are difficulties higher than 6. They can go as high as you want, in order to meet them, any dice that roll a 6 get rerolled and add the previous maxed value on it. So to get a 10, a dice needs to roll a 6 and then get a 4 or higher. To get above 12, you gotta roll a 6 twice in a row. Odds of this get larger and harder the higher it goes. Course when you have 8 dice or more, chances of hitting them get easier too...

Something not mentioned is that there's a computer program you can buy that helps with your computer skills, at which point i stopped buying that program to be a lure for black ice to attack...

Kristian: ...
First of all, thank you for bringing up actual points. I hope you will excuse me if I do not respond to the second half of your post as it has very little to do with the topic of achievements - 2, 3, 4 and 6 has very little to do with achievements, and the only thing 5 has in common with them is that it can add some.

Right, now that's out of the way - you're saying that you feel disappointed to not get more achievements when you don't play well enough. I say that's good. Achievements should not be rewarded for participating as far as I'm concerned - well, they should, but just a couple to be able to track player's progress and for finishing the game. Rest of the achievements should be rewarded for skillful or unusual play, for doing things most players either won't or won't be able to. That's what makes achievements achievements after all.
