AquaticIdealist: ?
Sorry, I don't follow. Aren't the mods supposed to take care of that? It's true that people shouldn't just take keys just because they are there, but why assume that all such people do so out of malice? A more poignant demonstration of malice are the people who post GOG games on torrent sites.
HypersomniacLive: What mods? This is a self-moderated community.
It was just a piece of advice based on what's going on for quite a while here and the measures the community is applying against it. You're free to take it or leave it.
Oh, and arguing that one thing is worse, does not make another better.
? So what you are saying is that the community is concerned that people steal keys during giveaways, and that that's why people have insisted on the "pm the codes instead" strategy, right?
Because it sounded like this was interpreted as an argument, when it was more of an inquiry as I apparently did not understand the initial post's point.
I wasn't arguing for or against anything, just stating another problem that seemed more imminent. Admittedly, when I attempted to make an earlier giveaway, while adhering to the "pm codes" tactic, the problem was that I wasn't always online, and that this forum has topics disappear quite frequently. By the time I went back online, my giveaway topic had already disappeared, and thus I was unable to give out remaining keys. This recent giveway was simply a means of making sure these keys would not expire before people who wanted them would be able to get them. Nothing more, nothing less.
Thankfully, GOG has fixed this problem in the last few months by allowing us to access topics we posted in before! But yeah, this particular series of codes were more urgent. Rest assured that when I do post another giveaway, the codes will be well-secured via pm / on my "notes" before release. Now I can't guarantee that some hacker wouldn't try to steal 'em anyway, but that's the job of firewalls and such and outside the purview of what the community can do. :P
