I've been trying to buy Descent 1 & 2 and it keeps telling me there's a problem. It' says either I keyed in something wrong, or my bank is refusing to allow the charge.

I've verified that i'm keying in everything correctly, and i've spoken with my Bank and they tell me that they're not refusing/stopping the charge, they're not even seeing it.

The only way I can find to contact GOG is to send them an email, which i've done (twice) and they're not responding. So now i'm posting the question here...

Is there a number I can call to make this purchase "manually"? Do I need to get an access code or authorization number or some "thing" in order for this to work? I just know i'm doing what i'm supposed to and for some reason it's not working. Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

Thank you for your time and help :)

Let's get a couple of things clear. You say it's a credit card. Is it really, or do you actually mean a debit card? Because only with a debit card should your bank be involved at all.

Secondly, can you post the exact message you get (cut and paste)?

Sadly, GOG support has been woefully inadequate lately, but it's still pretty much your only option of getting in touch with them. You say you've sent them an email, but have you created an actual support ticket?

Also, some banks automatically refuse transactions involving Cyprus (where GOG is registered for business reasons) because the island has gained a reputation for being a haven for credit card fraud schemes.
Good point Wishbone. It's a Visa Debit Card. I've come to think of it as a Credit Card because (up until now anyway) it has always worked just like a "real" Credit Card (used as such at Best Buy, Newegg, Gamestop, etc...). Maybe that's the problem? Cause it's not a "real" CC?

The error message I get is below:

There was a problem processing your orderSmokeWagon we're sorry, but your payment attempt has been declined; this could have happened for two reasons:

1. Some of the information entered in the form was incorrect; you can re-enter it 2 more times.

2. The transaction has been automatically blocked by your bank and we recommend contacting them for assistance. Please note that some banks block all overseas transactions by default, until the customer authorizes them

As for creating a support ticket, I don't know... I've clicked on My Account, then My Emails, then once on My Orders and Payments (and sent them an email), then once on Problems with Website (and sent them an email). They've not replied to either email yet. Is this what you mean by "support ticket"?

I didn't know about Cyprus' rep being bad. It's too bad a bunch of punk thieves have to screw it up for the rest of us, but I guess that's the "norm" nowadays.

I'd go to D2D, but they're selling D1 for 9.99 (when GOG sells D1 & 2 for 5.99). Dunno where else to go that's legit or trustworthy...
And lastly, you could try paypal. I've had zero problems with either situation on GOG (the first being a debit card), and only once on steam, so I have no experience with this (thank god).

Edit: If you have VISA Electron, that's a pure debit card, and not a credit card. It's a difference. Your bank account is adequately full, right?

An easy way for you to shortcut this for now would be to register a PayPal account. Sometimes they are a necessary evil, as while they are a horrible horrible company, they help cross borders and currencies. They also make things more secure.

I don't know if it's different in the US, but in the UK it is a very dangerous thing to consider a debit card and credit card to be the same thing - they are not.
I think i'm going to have to go the Paypal route. I already have an account with them, but there's no money in it. I've got plenty of funds to send to it, but it says it's going to take 3-5 business days for the money to actually become available.

Odd that in this age of electronic-lightening-fast-instant gratification I have to wait 3-5 days for an electronic funds transfer to fully process. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

I supposed they (GoG) might do "something" as far as my particular case is concerned, but i'm beginning doubt it. Thanks for your time and trying to help guys :)
Don't you have an option to just rewire the money over paypal. I don't have a cent on my paypal account, it just takes the required money from my bank account and uses it for the transaction. Giving paypal actual money would be insane.
HA! That works nicely. I went thru the process of paying w/Paypal even though I didn't have any money in my acct. When it came time to finalize, it said it would automatically deduct from my verified bank acct. and badaBING! DESCENT 1 & 2!!

I'm not sure if what I did is what you're talking about Titanium, but your post got me thinking. THANKS!!

Basically, that's exactly it.

GameRager: I did that a few times on sites....entered the dashes by accident I mean.
You mean you made the mistake of doing more work than required?

No wonder people don't like you.

GameRager: I made a mistake, and you feel to go offtopic to berate me about it?
I'm sure most people would take my post as a form of a compliment, and then faux insult to drive that point.

And since his issue is basically solved, going off topic is everything after the fact.

Sorry if you read my quip as an insult. It wasn't meant to be, but here we are.
