Lol, this digital delivery mess is getting ridiculous. I'll continue laughing to all this "cloud computing" bullcrap while installing MY OWN software'n games from my PHYSICAL DISKS 50 years in the future :-P

Elenarie: So yea, Windows 8 is a catastrophe... to their business model.
Not at all. Windows Store is only for Metro apps (who cares about this crippled crap anyway?), while Steam would work only for desktop apps.

The windows store also contains the xbox store which replaced GFWL Marketplace. So no it's not just for metro apps.
It looks like Valve is focusing on non-gaming business. I don't even know if they're working on Half Life games anymore. They announced the big screen mode but they don't release it and they start to tell people they want to sell non-gaming software.

I like Steam and I think people are really over-reacting at these news, but I liked Valve when it was all about gaming, I don't know why everything have to become a damn iPhone.

I'm not even sure that I want to see Steam growing up, people make stuff worse and they can stick with Angry Birds as far as I'm concerned. :P

HereForTheBeer: And if I disagree with future changes to the TOS, I'm then locked out of the software needed to run my business? Yeah, I think I'll find other retailers or other software.

(Yes, I brought that up again)

orcishgamer: Actually this is an extremely valid reason to steer clients away from Steam. Being beholden to a EULA is bad enough, getting screwed by Valve is just unnecessary risk and Valve brings fuck all to most businesses as they don't typically need constant updates, that can actually be a bad thing if your special spreadsheet breaks in the new version.
Speaking as a freelancer, imagine the potential trouble with a client that can result if things go wrong with your hardware/software. I have insurance to cover and settle any potential problems. But if steam were to blame, would there not be a case for them settling the fee? Hell if I know, but maybe someone might actually have a reason to sue steam after all. Assuming they're still able to!

Sad but true.

StingingVelvet: Well, most businesses anyway. Gotta love my friend the DJ who downloads every album with a beat from torrents for his work

EC-: Seems kinda pointless when he could just write off the albums on his taxes as a business expense.
Writing something off doesn't make it free, it just means you don't pay taxes on that amount of income, so if he spends 20 bucks on a CD and writes it off he simply doesn't pay taxes on that 20 bucks come tax time, saves him 5-7 bucks maybe, a write off is most certainly not a freebie, you still spent more than it is possible to save on taxes.

Ah, gotcha. I never wrote off a business expense in my life (since I've had relatively unimportant jobs), I always figured it was a better savings than that.
