comradegarry: Thanks for the advice, I've also played Planescape Torment and liked it (gameplay was soso, story real good) though I lost my save when I reinstalled my OS, had gotten half way through the game too :(
The story gets even better the more you near the end.

comradegarry: But shouldn't I wait to play this one and work up (to fallout 1&2 then maybe balder gates?)

sunshinecorp: You don't have to. It's not at all connected to the Fallout storyline. And Fallout is the better game. And a game everyone who loves RPGs should play.
Whether Fallout is a better game is a matter of opinion :), personally I think Wasteland is a much better game (Fallout I found to be just OK, not great. My main gripe with Fallout: too much talking to people. Also, it's not party-based.) I'd say play Wasteland before Fallout (as quoted though, they are unrelated so it doesn't really matter).

You're right of course it's subjective. I like too much talking. The more the better. :)

You might enjoy the spin-off Fallout Tacticts? If I remember, it's more party-based.

This is incorrect. There simply is no such thing as 'too much talking' :)

And there is no real talking.
And there are hairy Deathclaws :)

I've been playing fallout 1 for a couple of hours now and one small question, Do I have to really worry about the timer/ days before the vault runs out of water? or does that number change(go up) later on?

Without spoiling much, there is a way to delay it but not stop it entirely. There's plenty of time though. Don't worry TOO much about it, but yeah, it could lead to the doom of your vault.

Okay, Thanks that's what I wanted to know :)
Fallout Tactics is a bit underrated and got shot up for not being the next epic Fallout RPG I feel. It's a party-based strategy game which still includes some choice, looting and inventory management, and a really cool roster of soldiers. There's often multiple routes into places, and even some vehicles thrown in. Quite a nifty little game for what it is, though really difficult.

Sidenote: Don't pick the option to delay the timer.

Spoilers, spoilers...
Tactics was great but I think it's not even considered canon. I could be wrong on that one though.
EDIT: OK, it's considered semi-canon and its major events are referenced in Fallout 3 (so says the wiki). But in my opinion even though Fallout 3 was a good game, it was a crappy Fallout, so I'm ignoring it. Fallout: New Vegas on the other hand, ruled. Again, IMHO.
