jamyskis: I'm just trying to figure out whether you're deliberately lampooning Timppu's comment on the other thread about the Steam monopoly or whether you have just earned Facepalm of the Year award.

Edit: The lol just gave it away :-)

Fred_DM: i don't know what you're talking about. all i'm saying is that that comment came out of nowhere. it's been YEARS since i've heard of people burning discs. i wasn't aware that people still did that. it's so anachronistic.

i'm not judging. just observing.
You realize that a DVD burner would have cost over 1000 USD in the 1990s, right if they even existed for home use (which I'm not sure they did by that time)? Good DVD players cost 300-400 USD at Frye's back in 2001 or so.

And optical is way more stable than anything but microfilm or a stone tablet, why the fuck wouldn't you backup to optical? Anyone trying to archive and not doing it is a moron.

What are you gonna use, "the cloud"? Who the fuck builds a computer without an optical drive even these days (save maybe a thin profile laptop)? Anachronistic my ass, what are you 15? DVD isn't old or outdated in any way yet.
