foxworks: All this Max Payne talk is making me want to revisit all three. I can't! I have to make a dent in my backlog before returning! XD
avatar
stg83: Indeed, I also feel like revisiting the first two games now. Have you played Max Payne 3 as well or only the first two?
I've played all three around their respective release dates. I enjoyed them all.

Yep all are really fun games, the reason why I really enjoyed the third one a lot as well is because they kept James Mccaffery the original voice actor and even used him for performance capture in the cutscenes. Hearing the familiar voice and fantastic narration really brought back all those great memories of when I first played the games a long time ago.

Azrael360: It's been years since I rented and played the first two Max Payne games on my PS2, that I barely remember anything and I feel I should get them at some point again now on PC. But I want to get the third game much more, the price now is nice and right, but I've read so many stories about how bad and terrible are the DRMs in that game... :(
avatar
stg83: I have Max Payne 3 on PC, as you said the price was great so I got the game. It is true that having DRM is really irksome let alone having more then one, but I haven't had any issues with Rockstar Social Club and I would say it is less annoying then Uplay. I even played the Max Payne 3 multiplayer as well which was surprisingly a lot of fun and not once have had a problem connecting to the servers.
Thanks for the reply. So I guess it's mandatory to create an RSC account I guess... Do you know if you can't login in that account or have Internet access can still play the game?

According to the link below, you only need the internet connection to activate the game and also have to create an RSC account. But, after that you can play the single player mode offline and have your progress saved locally.

Thanks a lot! I didn't find that link before. I will read it now ^_^
When the first Max Payne came out, I was skeptical and thought it was another brainless shooter. But I had nothing better to play, so I borrowed the CD from my friend. It turned out I played it in just about the perfect setting – in a darkened room at a cold winter night. I fell in love with the game immediately.
Max Payne 3 was the last "new" game I bought without any discounts or sales. It was worth it. Not as good as the first, but a worthy continuation of the series.

As for a new player? I think the gameplay is solid for anyone, regardless of their familiarity of the series, and the plot is scripted in such a way as to not require previous knowledge of the series. However, the little nods and references make me smile and feel warm and fuzzy, even when the plot went off the rails a couple times.

Still, nothing will beat the first game. I can sit down and quote almost all of it, in proper sequence, without needing to look up any scripts. I can do a fair amount of the sequel, but not all of it. The third? Almost nothing.

TL;DR

It's a good action romp and I imagine you'd like it.

Elmofongo: I am more comfortable getting one for PS3 since:

1. I want nothing to do with Rockstar Social Club or other DRM

2, The game was made for consoles. I am very selective about PC Ports. I would play GTA 5 on PC, but not Max Payne.
1. Somehow i think that if your ps3 is connected to the internet then you might have to deal with the social club ( not sure though).

2. It's definitly no a port it looks amazing on pc and it runs amazing and it controls perfect with mouse and keyboard. I actually really doubt the main focus was console since i heard a lot of people complaining the game was too hard and that was almost Always console players. The game is harder then average but due to extremely smooth controls is more then doable. With a controller there might be some issues. I am not a pc fanboy, I like consoles and pc equally, and believe to play the game on the platform it is most suited for and in this case there is no doubt in my mind that pc is the way to go.

Hmmm not played it but as i remember correctly that one plays better on console due to the sticks working better then the mouse in the investigation mode (if i remember correctly)

I gotta agree with this, I couldn't even imagine playing Max 3 with a console controller, it's also well optimized and looks great. While social club DRM is a pain in the ass, it's actually not as intrusive in Max Payne 3 as I found it with GTA 4 on PC.

My other porblem is that, will my PC handle it because it looks too good. I currently have a GTX 650 and can play games like Crysis 1 and Mass Effect Trilogy OK.

You can never be sure but if you can run crysis you can run max 3. It's incredibly well optimised and has an extensive video options menu.

No problemo. Runs very well.
