EDIT: Petrell asked the question much better.

As most everyone knows, we GOGgers often get patches after Steam ("second-class citizens"), and that turns some people off using this service. So I'm wondering (or can't remember), is Galaxy suppose to provide patches to us sooner? I'm wondering if devs can use Galaxy to provide patches nearly as quickly as Steam (but not yet tested by GOG), and then GOG can eventually wrap that into the "official" installer once they're sure it works (or however all that tech stuff works), or is what I'm asking simply not feasible or not comparable to the "behind-the-scenes" setup Steam has? :-P

I always thought it being more of a convenient way to get the patches/updates, but it would be great if it allowed devs the ability to push updates through without the bottle-neck from the workload it creates behind the scenes at GOG :)
I thought the galaxy was mainly for multiplayer and replacement for the old downloader not sure if they are going to change the file structure of all the games on gog

It depends on one tiny detail:

We need to actually get the patch first. You can have all the speed in the world but it won't do any good if we don't have the patch in question :)

Just my 2 cents on the matter :)
Patches got out again, did you forget to close the gate?

oooooh

Can it be as simple as a dev sending it to you as an email attachment? I don't know how all that works but I assume it's a bit more complex, and Steam somehow simplifies the process.

Well, if Timmy would stop falling down the freaking well, perhaps Patches wouldn't have had to learn to operate the gate.

No, it's not that simple and I'll leave it at that :)

WELL

maybe if you didn't make Timmy's life miserable he wouldn't always be trying to kill himself! Why did you adhere scratch n' sniff stickers to the bottom of that thing anyways???

They are asking if it will be possible for devs to push their patches directly to servers (without GOG QA interference) in the same way as on Steam. Currently devs send files to GOG, GOG staff tests them, builds the patches and then uploads them to servers. Devs consider GOG way to be slow and cumbersome as with Steam they have full controll of their uploads, can verify their files on steam themselves and are able to get immediate feedback from userbase and fix problems without having to wait and wonder if upload succeeded or what people on the other end do with their files.

I don't know if GOG staff informs the devs after receiving files from them and of their progress of implementing them but on Desura, that uses similar medhod, devs receive no feedback after they upload the files so there have been cases where dev uploaded a patch and it never became available on Desura (Did the upload fail? Was there a bug in system? Did Desura QA reject the file? Did Desura staff miss/forget the the patch? etc. etc. etc.).

Second class citizens when it comes to patches. :(

But first class citizens when it comes to DRM. :)
