overread: Ironclads - got really excited seeing this, then tried a demo and bleh... I can't belive how un-fun they managed to make a game with ships and cannon fire - esp since the audio was poor (many guns missed their auto fire) and it seemed the gun crews didn't like shooting.
I decided to give Ironclads a try, and I agree, that was not a fun game. But there is a big but here, I suspect that it has a lot to do with my own expectations of games, and the games relatively strict adherence to historical facts. Wargaming enthusiasts (the crazy kind, who think that Paradox titles are not detailed enough) seem to love these games though. It got an 85% from
Armchair general and
Wargamer gave it its "Award for excellence".
If there had been an option to play the games at an even higher speed, I suspect that my opinion would have been different, it was the slow speed of everything that was the biggest issue, according to me. So too niche for me, but if you are a history/wargaming buff, then make sure to check it out.
