There was a time, many many years ago when Craig Ferguson was funny. It seems that when British comedians go to the US they leave their funny behind. Lenny Henry and Rowan Atkinson are perfect examples. Won't be long before Hugh Lawrie is boring, oh and David Tennant is on his way over there for a series too.

Hmm. I guess with Craig it's just what you like in your style of humour. Guess I could see how one would find him annoying.
I value honesty and "realness" in it more than anything, and he's got plenty of that. He doesn't seem to script anything (last week I saw him tearing up those question cards in the middle of the show, saying to Michelle Rodriguez, "If I can't talk to someone like you without a script, I shouldn't be in show business") and tells long stories about real shit. Really appreciated him divulging on his past experiences with alcoholism/why people should stop harassing celebrities when they go crazy (link).
I love Conan but he never really says anything meaningful. And he sold out to Intel.
I realize some people don't find thinking entertaining.

Next, since I happen to like both Conan AND Jay, let me try to add in Leno's point of view: He was, in effect, ousted from the Tonight Show. He didn't want to go. Then, NBC promises him a new show, but earlier, and a year trial run. But, in the end, the NBC executives caved in to the affiliates, canceled his show, and pitted him against Conan.
BOTH men got screwed. But this isn't Leno's fault; its NBC's fault. Everyone is making out Leno to be some unfunny, horrible %$^$%, and it makes me want to cry. While I think that Leno should have left the network after his stint at the Tonight Show ended (ABC was reportedly interested in him), I wish everyone would back off, and instead trash NBC; they're the ones that screwed up.
I've never liked Letterman; he's a dirty old man, (even before the whole intern thing), and he makes me uncomfortable. Every says that Leno 'stole' the Tonight Show from him, but I think that maybe they didn't want a pervert hosting the Tonight Show. Please note that that is my opinion, and not a proven fact. However, this whole thing makes me sad. Everyone is being mean about it; as I said, I like Leno and Conan, and it tears me up to see them pitted against each other, insulting each other and calling each other names. They're both funny, classy men, just in different ways. (And better than Letterman).
My solution: Conan and Leno should BOTH leave NBC. Give the executives the finger on the way out, and go to different networks (Conan to Fox, Leno to ABC). Then, the viewers would ge to pick their favorite man for themselves (or in my case, agonize over which one to watch, and end up either tapping one and watching the other, or furiously flipping between them at once), and NBC would get what's coming to them. They would be stuck with Jimmy Falon (who is not very funny), and Carson Daily.
Suck it, NBC!!!

Letterman is just an asshole. It disgusts me every time he condescends one of his guests and the audience cheers. They're assholes, too. :P

Letterman used to be better. In 1992 (and for several years after), I think he was far wittier and funnier (with a slight edge) than Leno. However, as the years have passed, Letterman has become more bitter and more sarcastic (even sleazy and condescending, as some have put it). However, it doesn't change the fact that Letterman was Carson's pick to replace him as host, and Leno essentially did an end run with the NBC execs at the time to take the Tonight Show.
As for Conan, I am sure he'll land on his feet. Regardless of what transpires, he'll come out of this smelling like a rose. He may have to take a year or so off because of contractual/settlement obligations with NBC, but he'll be back. Now, the future of his crew that he relocated out to LA to run the new show... that might be a little less rosey.

At least you didn't have to suffer steve vizard. Back in the early 90s when lettermen was apparently relevant, there was a 100% knockoff on australian tv with a dipshit who thought he was a celebrity and was at least as bad as letterman sounds now. The thing that sucked the most is that that twats show was on just before Babylon 5 so I often caught the end if I turned over too early, my soul still bears the scars to this day

Yeah, I never got into Letterman so I can't really speak for that. But it makes sense. He commands a lot of loyalty, it seems. The bitter old man thing is pathetic, though. If people could see him for what he is...
I know he has a good side, too. The Bill Hicks thing was something else.
As for Conan, just get rid of godamn Andy Richter. Godammit that guy is agonizing. Conan could be at his absolute best and I wouldn't watch if that guy was around.

That sounds horrible. I've seen one Australian TV show host and it made me want to die inside.

*sigh* Both men got screwed...I hope Leno leaves the second his contract expires...this whole thing has been a horrible travesty; Conan is forced to leave, and Leno's reputation is tarnished.
Cue the "Leno's a douchebag, its all his fault" crowd in 3, 2, 1....

To be honest, when I saw the Hicks thing, I thought "man, what a sleazy way to go up in the ratings". He outright lied on that show too, to look good. He said "looking back, I had no reason to not air that show" and then after they aired it again, he said "I haven't seen it since 1993". Which one is it, Letterman? He then added that he sees no reason why he didn't air it - well I do. This was 1993 - 17 years ago from now. The climate was different, more conservative yet the comedian ridicules Christians, republicans (pro-lifers), etc.
In general I don't like Letterman. I've watch quite a few of his clips and his shows tend to be far too dry, too cynical (the bad kind) and he does come across as being condescending and patronising. The way he sits and talks to his guests you'd think he's the principal and the guest had to come to his office for a stern talking to. I guess it's down to tastes but I prefer a host that is more relaxed and playful.
When I was 13-14, we got a black & white TV in my bedroom (which I still shared with my brother) and we watched the Tonight Show and Late Night Show from 10 to 12 almost every night (with subtitles) so I personally have happy memories of both shows. Back then I preferred Jay Leno because his comedy was more on the level of a 14 year old it seems :P . Now, Conan gets my preference. He's wackier while Leno is "safer" and does dumb jokes. Also, Conan easily beats Leno during interviews I find.

I'm not sure what one has to do with the other, but anyway..the weird part to me was he took responsibility for it, when I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with him. Why would it? It's not his network. He doesn't accept pro-life ads. :P
But I took it in good stride partly because of the "It's Just a Ride" DVD..dunno if you saw that, but...it's really hard not to take his regret sincerely there.
Conan's awesome. Leno's got some charm but mostly he's boring and for old/stupid people. :P
