Aliasalpha: Heh reminds me of my sister's computer, she was living in canberra and her computer was always overheating in the middle of winter, she brought it over and I found the reason, a giant bogong moth was stuck in the CPU fan

Building a PC is a scary challenge (So much easier than back in the old days though, think yourself lucky) but so much more satisfying when you get it running right.

Next step, get yourself a dremel and start case modding!

prakaa: Hahahahaha how did it get inside??!?

I remember opening up the computer we had ages ago, and took to a person to get fixed. Now i know why it crashed all the times, there were no fans in it...
How old? I don't think that fans were included until round about the 486. The chips just didn't consume enough power to need a fan.

2006 old, so not really old, but some of the parts were imported from a 2003 comp

Zchinque: My first one went pretty smoothly, all things considered. I mean, sure I did a bunch of mistakes...

I tried (and succeeded in) putting the hard drive backwards.
I mounted the RAM in the wrong slots
....and surely a couple of other things

But I got it all to work in a single evening, which was no less than I had expected.
my girlfriend told me i was pretty good my first time. ba-dum PSSSSSHHHHHHH

Aliasalpha: I can only conclude it was magic, there were no large openings in the case
maybe the moth was born and grew up in the case!

I used to buy all mine pre-made but the last 2 or 3 times I built them from parts... it was a fun experience, and honestly my PCs run a lot better now. Before I would buy cheap-ass PCs and shove high-end GPUs in them, which now I realize is pretty fucking stupid.
