sauvignon1: I maybe do it twice a month.
avatar
Lifthrasil: You only 'do it' twice a month? Let me guess, you are married, right? Yea, I know that problem. Some time after the marriage the frequency of doing it goes seriously down. But only twice a month is harsh!
You think twice a month is bad. My wife and I have only managed twice since our second son was born. He had his first birthday last month...

Ouch. Now I'm almost glad that I don't have kids yet. But only almost.

fracturedsanity: It's just a sign of the times that it went straight to health concerns instead of dick jokes.

Smannesman: Pipes are for sissies, go for chewing tobacco man.
And if you're going to do drugs, skip crack and go straight for bath salts.
Crack is soooo nineties.
I love bath salts!

I won't recommend any pipe brands nor can I, because I know dick ;) about pipes. I also won't berate you for wanting to try pipe smoking. ;)

I will, however, suggest a healthier alternative that helped me kick tobacco going on 2 years now.

I would suggest that you try e-cigarettes, or if you're determined to look oh-so-dapper and sophisticated with your pipe, they make e-pipes as well. IMO, e-cigs are the cheaters way to not smoke while still getting the nicotine your brain craves and none of the shit that can kill you. Seems like a pretty good tradeoff to me.

That's all I'm going to say really. I don't really feel like debating the pros and cons or explaining how they work in detail. I've done it all too many times before. Research it and make your own educated decision.

Alright, that is officially awesome.
I'm a cigar aficionado. Ok maybe not, but I got into cigars last year, and I've been into it for a while.
I recently also got a Mr. Brog churchwarden on Amazon. I'm relatively pleased with it, and I'm learning how to work the thing as well. I don't find it nearly as enjoyable as cigars but the tobacco smells amazing. Usually has some sort of molasses and vanilla in it.
Watch this, do what he does after hangovers.
Pipe smoking is really soothing, I prefer it to cigars, it's a little cleaner, most folks don't mind the smell, and it's cheaper. It is a little more work, though.

My advice is to buy an inexpensive (but not -CHEAP-) pipe from a local smoke shop. Tell them you are new to pipe smoking and to recommend a pipe and tobacco for you. Don't be nervous and don't be arrogant, remember that pipe smoking is usually a social thing, most folks are willing to be friendly and teach you the proper technique, but only if you are willing to learn. If you get to where you like it, you can buy a few nicer pipes made from different materials that will provide a different 'experience'.

I will also advise you that with pipe smoking and cigar smoking, etiquette is -VERY- important! Ask someone to teach you the proper things to do and what improper behavior is. You are young, so you may get a short pass for it, but it's not an excuse. I was your age when I started smoking pipes and cigars, I hung out at a local lounge and some folks showed me the way, but I was willing to learn and accept that the social norms associated with it.

FWIW, you do increase your risk of cancer, but I'd be willing to venture you are more likely to get it from soda or other sources than you are smoking every once and a while. If you do it on a daily basis, that's a little different.

Well I just smoked a pipe for the first time. It's enjoyable, but I need to practice my packing and lighting.
At the OP: Sorry, never smoked a tobacco pipe, but I love the smell.
