jjsimp: Not a bad list, but how is Alien a horror movie. I mean yeah I guess it had a couple frights, but it just didn't belong on that list with the other movies. I think I would put Blair Witch on there before Alien.

I loved the movie, I just don't consider it a horror movie. Sci-Fi, yes, but horror...and better than any of the movies listed as a horror film.

The best part of Paranormal Activity 4 is the way it expands on and further defines up a mythos. I love how they all build on one another. If the hints at the PA4 finale are to be delivered upon in the next installment then Paranormal Activity 4 might be tolerable as something to bridge the gap. My favorite entry in the series is Paranormal Activity 2, I'm really hopefully they can turn things around but the spin-off trailer for The Marked Ones only makes me more skeptical.

Paranormal Activity 1 and 2 were absolutely fantastic, although 2 is my favourite. 3 and 4 are both horrible, and should never have been made.

What was different this time? I've only seen the first two (from TV), and they were quite similar, fake home/surveillance videos of some family being harassed by ghosts. I admit they were somewhat scary, but in a cheap way. The same way like the first Resident Evil game was, with its "quiet corridor... until suddenly a few zombie dogs jump through the windows and attack you!". Cheap jump scares, which I don't quite appreciate the same way like, oh, Hellraiser 1 and 2 movies.

Was it this time a proper movie with a story, and not a quasi-documentary akin to The Blair Witch Project?

No, it was still mostly the same. The main problem, apart from the paper-thin characters and crappy dialogue, was that there was no build-up . It was going on like the others up to the point where it started being Poltergeist on steroids, with the ghost that harassed people in subtle, unexpected ways suddenly beating going Rambo on them.

Did I mention the cast sucked, apart from the daughter ?
