It's great to see, that some people over there still take it seriously.
Where I live people are ''engaged'' for years (if a relationship goes longer than one year which doesn't seem to be the norm anymore) without real plans of marriage, they just think it sounds cool but have no clue about traditions and don't want a partner for life anyway.

Being with the right person has made me incredibly happy (this week he was traveling for five days and I missed him so, so, so much!)... Because they're family and unless you're willing to cut them out of a significant part of your life, it's important that they come around.

Personally, it's unlikely that I'd be willing to marry somebody if either of the in-laws were opposed. When a person gets married they're marrying into a family and it's really hard to be nominally in the family, but not wanted.
