Alot of these are obviously just for shits & giggles, but in all seriousness, I had an idea for a tv show similar to Sliders before it ever came out. I hadn't thought it completely through to the point of having the same characters "Sliding" from one world to the next, but I did have just the basic idea of different Earths in the present day, each one focusing on just one historical event going different from our own Earth & the ripple effect it would have.
I came up with China's Cultural Revolution. Not one of my best ideas......

predcon: What sort of things have you seen that you think you could have come up with, given the time?
GoG.
It's a shame a lot of you are deprived of the BBC, there's a show on at the moment called "Dave Gorman's - Genius". I has loads of good stuff on it. I particularly liked the idea of having an average person in every olympic event, just to put it all into perspective.

And then Olympians can come and try to do better than me at my job?

They could put it into perspective at least. I'm a programmer, and would quite like to see a Insane Bolt trying to code an app. "Hnngg - can't work pressy thing!".
I documented an idea for a video game extremely similar to Inception in concept before the movie was publicized.

EDIT: However, it's different enough to still be usable.

I usually walk to the laundromat to pick up clothes I've left there ironing, but instead of carrying all the clothes with their hangers squeezing my hands out of circulation (it's actually painful when I carry them on the hand that has the wedding ring) I game up with a simple solution. I grabbed a garbage bag, twirled it around like a rope, made loops on each end, and then I stick the hooks of half the load on one of the loops and the other half on the other loop. Then I carry the whole load on my shoulder, with the clothes in front and back, balancing each other.

Hell, I've done it with my belt even when picking up groceries. Just take it off, loop it around the bag holders, buckle it, carry half of the load on the back and the other half on the front, leaving my hands free for whatever, be it hailing a cab, texting, carrying an umbrella or what have you, since the body is doing the lifting.

If someone invented a small strap, with a cushioned side for the shoulder and metal hooks on each end, I'd buy it. I figure this has to exist already but I've never seen it being sold.

Aliasalpha: I came up with a tv show concept that was very similar to gene roddenberrys andromeda a few years before it was made

Delixe: Did you also have the bad idea of casting alcoholic Kevin Sorbo?
I think the worse part of that was that he was already typecast from his time as Hercules. I feckin' loved that show, with Bruce Campbell as Autolycus, King of Thieves.

Yes that would be the same Hercules where they had an episode called 'Where's Kevin Sorbo' dedicated to the fact no one could find him because he had gone on a week long bender.
