iainmet: Yeah, just turn it off and forget about it till the morning after you have had breakfast and done your morning routine. Then after you have had coffee and whatever else then look at it with a clear mind

oh by the way, what's changed here on the site? I haven't been here in some months.
They are getting newer games up to about 2008 and getting a fair few Indies, we now have an official community wishlist. You can activate your Witcher 1 & 2 retail keys here for digital copies. There is also a few extra free games from the Ultima Universe. The past 2 weeks or so they have been doing Battle of the Games where you vote for one of 2 titles daily and they get reduced in price for 24 hours afterwards.

Other than that same old as the saying goes!

Thank you. I think I'm going to go try and get some sleep.
You got an anti virus on your phone? Silly concept I know but there are a few viruses out on the Android format now... might be worth grabbing one (there's some good freebies) just incase you've downloaded a rogue app from the marketplace such as a fake infected copy of Angry Birds. That's the only suggestion I can think of that's not been covered.
This is most likely due to software error.
If sim & battery plug out didn't work, you'll have to do full wipe. If that fails too, I'd try rooting phone and installing custom rom & kernel. It's not as hard as it looks on the first sight...

But it does invalidate his warranty and if he screws it up or it still doesn't work he's left with a useless phone he can't get replaced of fixed by HTC or replaced by Contents Insurance if he has it. I really wouldn't recommend that (I have a modded phone myself.)

No, if you don't unlock it using HTC Dev, as you can re-flash stock rom & kernel, and relock the phone if something happens. Tested by one of my best friends...

EDIT: I thought that HTC Dev only invalidates software part of it?

I've seen this problem reported on numerous Android forums and tech site comment sections.

The conspiracy theory is that Verizon and HTC want people to upgrade to the Incredible 4G (just released), and that's why the OTA is causing problems for so many people.

It's possible but tbh I doubt it. They'll do everything they can to get away with not replacing or repairing it for free. I don't have a HTC phone anymore, mine's an Orange San Francisco (aka ZTE Blade)

I don't know about this being foul play but a lot of Ericsson models started magically going wrong around 19 months in (just after contract) this is going back a few years but given how all the issues were similar amongst models and it degraded fast I remain suspicious that companies might choose to do this kind of thing. It's a good way of making sure you can't sell the phone for lots of money or your replacement phone if you're on contract.

My Desire HD (HTC Ace) was acting up so I rooted it, then grabbed a stock rom (newest build with Sense 3 - think its Gingerbread) and flashed it with that. Since then my phone has worked perfect.

A lot of issues that crop up with Android and other phones actually is when the networks put their own branding and apps etc in the build. Can slow things down and cause issues.

This.
As one of my friends said, it seems that they are branding system with axe, but they wrap it in a sheet just in case.
Just got up about 10 minutes ago, and my phone is working fine. Powering it down for a few hours sees to do the trick. Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. If my current solution fails me in the future, I can turn to this thread.
