And old. And expensive. Has anyone played them ? Were they worth it ?

They seem from the win2000 era and such. Does anyone think that a GoG alliance should be proposed ?

http://www.hpssims.com/pages/products/DA/decisive_action.html <-- check for the other wargames on the left column.
(Bumped post week-end just in case a gog member casually reads it, investigates & considers. That's all.)
aren't all those hardcore wargames horribly overpriced? seems to me that the more unattractive a wargame, the more expensive it is. and none of them are available through the more popular sources, like GOG or Steam. it's like they don't actually WANT people to buy their games.

fine by me.

They are. I think it's because authors think that even on lower price, like 9.99 , not too many people will buy this, because it's too hard, complex, and ugly to be bought.

So they rely on people who like those games a lot. Just enough to buy a copy for 49 dollars...

Profit from single unit sold, over the quantity of units sold.

It saddenes me though, because most of the Wargames , like Combat mission, or War over Europe are too freaking expensive to me, and I will definitely play them, a lot.
Even if I sucked in them.

you're probably right, but i think that view is horribly outdated. thanks to Steam, GOG, GamersGate etc. i've bought and learned to love games i never thought i'd like.

just imagine the kind of attention a game like Panzer Corps would instantly get just by being on Steam, and how many people would pick it up with a discount. they'd make more in a day than they're now making in months.

many gamers won't even step outside of their preferred digital distributor (which is usually Steam). there's no chance these people will visit a wargame developer's website and purchase a game there for 49 dollars. not a snowball's chance in hell. never in a million years. no way Jose. no chance Lance.

but somehow, this hasn't gotten through to those devs, it seems.
I agree with you. I don't find games as luxury goods at all. They're medium just like movies or books, and you should make them as accessible as possible, for wider audience (I mean, price should be rather low)

So many people don't buy their games just because they are so expensive, and they can't even find out if they like that kind of games.

I'm not gonna risk 50 bucks on a game I might not like.

Fortunatelly, many indie devs start to see that, like SpiderWeb software, that made a deal like that:

you want our games cheap? go on steam
you want to support us more? buy it from our site.

and it works like hell, they start to earn more than ever.

yeah, Spiderweb are an excellent example of a developer seeing the light and adapting to changing distribution conditions and purchasing habits. if only those hardcore wargame devs would realize what they're missing out on...
