crazy_dave: So I was wondering ... how did you guys first find out about GOG? Unfortunately I only found out about it as a result of the flap over the temporary shutdown - I know, I know I shouldn't admit that :), but it is true. How did you early birds stumble on it?
I had stopped buying any games for a couple of years, got an urge to play something, ANYTHING. Googled "DRM free games" and GOG. Com popped up.

Before GOG I usually had a 2 to 5 game backlog, after GOG, my game backlog is now over 100 . . . . =)

Found out about it from The Witcher forums when I was cruising through them one day.

lol, thanks, that's sorta what it feel like, between new releases and sales my backlog is out of control.

My tendency to play a game till I've exhausted every character doesn't help either . . . =)
I heard about them reading this interview on Gamasutra back in July 2008.

love the picture ... I've only got about 12 paid games but I feel swamped! I'm also trying to get a lot of them working on my Mac OS X side using WINE. So that slows playing them down since I have to get them working (so far with good success except for the flight sims because WINE, OS X, and USB joysticks don't get along at the moment). That and the fact I'm supposed to be ... you know ... working ... :)

Trying to find a place where I could buy the might and magic games.

The escapist but it took a couple news storys by them for me to actually bother checking it out.
I'm at 846 days (844 if I count from the OP date).

I don't quite remember how I found out abot GOG... Destructoid, maybe?

Who is the oldest non-GOG staff member, anyway?

There's Qbix, of DOSBox fame. I believe he was here about a month before the closed public beta started.

My brother and I have read about GOG's approaching closed beta launch (and the possibility of signing up for it) on a Hungarian videogame site; I'm not sure whether it was PC Guru or GameStar, though.
