It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

DrIstvaan: Also, solving questions is a mystery. I solved a problem the other day, and got 0 rep points for it (it was 693, and it stayed that way). Maybe it's a bug, or solving 0-rep users' problems doesn't add to your rep total?
Don't know what's the deal with Q posts and rep now, but i can confirm that solved questions aren't affecting rep right now.

Maybe points were recalculated from scratch using new rules? Or devs are still tweaking whole system, which results in points change.

The only thing that would seem to make sense is that they changed the calculation for how positive post ratings impacts rep. In the past, it took a whole hell of a lot of "+" votes to increase your rep (conversely, it took a whole hell of a lot of "-" votes to decrease rep), but if they made that particular aspect of rep much more forgiving, then the seemingly random increases in rep might make some kind of sense.

Faithful: Why make a part of the site that everyone participates in complex? At the very least there should be a general list of how various activities affect a person's Rep status.
avatar
LordCinnamon: But it isn't complex! You post as you like, and if you're not a jerk, your rep will increase, and if you are really nice, it'll increase some more. That's all there is on the side of the `participants'. No need to know the precise system unless you'd want to exploit it (or, admittedly, as Namur said, if you want check if it works correctly).
Keep telling yourself that :) fact is most people rarely rate post so all that really matters is post count, whether your a jerk or not doesn't factor into it in any meaningful way. I doubt GoG care if their income comes from nice guys or jerks, it all spends.
GOG should be honest with users and address this. If the Rep is broken tell people, if not then why the secrecy of a basically inconsequential part of the site.

Navagon: Maybe they don't want people to be motivated by rep. Maybe they want to reward positive community interactions that aren't made for the sake of boosting a largely irrelevant number.
If they didn't want to motivate people by rep, then they wouldn't reward rep for certain actions (such as posting, answering a question, getting "voted up", etc.) and they wouldn't remove rep for negative actions. In fact, they simply would scrap the entire system.

You simply can't use a rep system for rewarding positive community interaction and not have people motivated by it. It just doesn't work that way. People are either going to be motivated by the number of rep. they have, or they're going to ignore it.

Then that would be either a bug, or they forgot to change this text:

Mark as “question / problem” (special category of “help me” topics that ecourages others to answer and earn reputation points for solving your question / problem; offtopic chatter is forbidden)

I meant doing certain things because they're guaranteed to boost your rep. Obviously there would be an overall sense of motivation. Especially when it comes avoiding posting inflammatory, trollish remarks. But also, hopefully, people will still be motivated to help others and keep their rep in the positive.

I would think most users are very typical; in that they come here post a post or two and that's about it. Users like Namur deserve every point and star they receive as it takes a lot of effort to search the various forums for Questions to answer.

Maybe there should be a filter to show ALL Questions in a single area.

Still the bottom line is GOG needs to address this with its user base. This is stinking maddening.

I visit GOG today and make a couple posts, my Rep stays at 670; no issue there.

I then come back about 30 minutes later and my Rep has dropped to 667.

So, the new Rep system lowers your Rep for being a loyal follower of GOG since day one, and the staff offer no reason for such occurrences.

They should either fix or remove the Rep system.
