If you're not really too set on the holiday theme, I would also highly recommend:
Crows Zero and Crows Zero 2

and the hongkong young and dangerous series.

hedwards: I'd specifically suggest not watching A Christmas Story. Why that junk has to be on every year is beyond me. I guess it really is true that an American tradition is anything that a Baby boomer did twice.

chao8971: A Christmas Story is one of my least favorite holiday films. My step-pepper absolutely loves it and has made me watch it on multiple occasions, along with home alone multiple times. I just really find a Christmas Story annoying, but people think it is a classic so eh, what can you do.
I think people should buy up the rights and all the copies and have a good old fashioned movie burning.
If I were a jackass, I would suggest Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2. But I'm not, so instead, I'll just link to the only memorable part of that movie.

Jingle All The Way. Gotta watch at least once. :)

da187jimmbones: For Santa Clause and Santa Clause Conquers the Martians, I hope you watch the MST3K versions. I don't think the movies are bearable otherwise.

My suggestions:

Brazil
12 Monkeys
Home Alone
2046
Eyes Wide Shut

...and of course, It’s A Wonderful Life is the xmas movie, although there are a bunch of other movies I'd rather watch.
These are all great choices for films that take place during Christmas.

Except maybe for Brazil?

I had always thought that it wasn't that Brazil took place during Christmas, but rather that in the world of Brazil, there was never a time that wasn't Christmas.

Anyone else read it that way?

I've heard of and liked all of those movies besides Brazil. I've never even heard about it before. I'm guessing that it is this one your talking about http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088846/ but I am not really sure.

Brazil is a great movie, but it's a Terry Gilliam film, so you have to be prepared for his kind of weirdness.

I think he did Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas which was weird but pretty good, but weird movies don't really bug me very much after my David Lynch phase.
To anyone considering watching Brazil...in addition to preparing yourself mentally for Gilliam weirdness, you also need to make 100% sure that you watch the director's cut. Do NOT watch the "Love Conquers All" version (or the theatrical version). The Love Conquers All version was sabotaged by the studio to intentionally make the film suck. Watch the director's cut, which is edited properly and how the director intended the movie to be seen.
