Currently, we treat the front page as a place to post important news. News along the importance of "Your sister is getting married!" always ends up there. Social media is where we have a side channel, if you will, for less important things. If you never visit the forums, never visit any of our social media sites, and only visit our front page once a week, you will never miss out on any news of import. Meanwhile, I've already stated I'm looking into what we can do to post news to our community here as well as our social media communities.

Making an announcement about the lack of an event seems a little silly. We already get enough guff for our reputation for announcing that we will be having an announcement later. :P
